First Communion: Session 7

Chapter 12: Jesus is the Bread of Life

Introduction for parents

Key Questions

  • What is Holy Communion? Holy Communion is the way in which Jesus feeds us with his own self to make us holy.

  • What is heaven? Heaven is living in happiness forever with God.

The bread we are talking about here is the Eucharist - Holy Communion, which you are now preparing to receive soon on your First Holy Communion Day.

Jesus is so excited and you must be excited too.

All the preparation you have done leading to this wonderful moment is nearly here.

In the Old Testament, God gave some bread-like food, called Manna, to the Israelites in the desert but this had not satisfied their hunger for long. It helped them on their journey and kept them alive. Jesus said that if anyone received the Eucharist, His Body and Blood, then this would be bread of a different kind; the Bread of Life which would make them live forever in Heaven.
