St Vincent de Paul Society
September is Awareness Month for the St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP); this is a national campaign but we would like to focus on our involvement at Our Lady of Lourdes and St Joseph’s. We only have 8 full members, 7 of which are active.
During the past year our main priority has been to support the elderly or housebound in the parish by visiting them in their own homes, in nursing or residential care and in hospital – a total of 400 visits (year to 31/3/15). We also assisted with shopping and transport requirements.
Increased membership would result in more visits; there is a great need in our parish. Our Annual Appeal will be held next weekend: your financial support enables us to fulfil our commitments.

Dear friends in Christ
We come to what is, for many of us, the final weekend of the Summer holiday season; many of our children and staff will be returning to their Schools this week after the long holiday. We wish them all a very happy start of term and a happy academic year ahead!
Within the Parish we shall soon begin the next cycle of sacramental preparation which culminates in the celebration of the Sacraments during next Eastertide. I look forward to meeting all those candidates – young and old – who may be participating in the catechesis and preparations. In particular I would like to ask you to invite anyone you know, who may be interested in learning more about the Catholic faith (with a view to becoming a Catholic in the future!) to come along to my three introductory Talks on the Faith beginning on Monday, 7th September at 8pm in the Parish Centre. Perhaps there is someone you know who could be a Catholic and shows a holy desire to get to know Christ better in and through His Church? Do be courageous and apostolic and invite them; they will be very welcome and, hopefully benefit from these evenings.
With my renewed and assured prayers for all of you in our Parish family, especially the sick and housebound and all those in any special need. God bless you all!
Msgr Kevin Hale
