Parish/Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes 14th-20th August 2016
Next year the Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes will take place around the Solemnity of Our Lady’s Assumption. A Parish group is being planned to coincide with the Diocese being there with our Bishop (and Vicar General!). Six nights (full board) travelling with British Airways via Toulouse and staying at the Grand Hotel Moderne will cost £635. Please indicate your interest by putting your name on the list in the Parish Office as we have to confirm numbers by Monday, 16th November.

Chaplet of Divine Mercy during the Jubilee Year
During the forthcoming Year of Mercy, it is hoped that the Chaplet of Divine Mercy can be prayed in the church daily at three o'clock in the afternoon, the Hour of Mercy, as this is the hour Jesus died on the Cross for us. It would be very appropriate if Parishioners could take it in turns to lead this prayer each day. It is very simple, not lengthy, conventional Rosary beads are used and could be led by young or old alike. There will be some small prayer cards available so that everyone can take part easily. There will be a list in the Sacristy which you are asked to sign for each day, month-by-month. We can begin the Chaplet on Monday, 14th December.

Dear friends in Christ
We have entered the final weeks of the liturgical year, which ends with the feast of Christ the King in two weeks time. During November the texts and readings at Mass generally point us to the eschatological truths of our Faith; that is: death, judgment, Heaven and Hell. The Church doesn’t want to alarm us by these considerations, but rather warn and alert us to what is ahead. The wise person lives daily in prospect of eternity. During November above all, we can pray both for the eternal repose of the Holy Souls in Purgatory and for our own readiness for the moment when God will call us from this life to Life. Every Mass has this eschatological dimension since in every Mass we look to the Risen Lord with anticipation. The Eucharistic Sacrifice is Heaven now, but not yet; we have one foot on earth whilst the other is in Heaven; Holy Mass is where these two worlds meet.
During the final week of this month we usually have our Days of Eucharistic Exposition and Adoration or The Forty Hours Prayer. This time above all the times in the year is a preparation for eternal life as we look also towards the start of Advent and the Jubilee Year of Mercy. In preparation for our Forty Hours I would like to ask you to think about the time you can set aside for prayer with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. I would especially like to ask the many Parish Groups to organise amongst yourselves periods that you can dedicate to such prayer. This will ensure that there is a round-the-clock vigil and also represent the prayers of all those members of the Parish Family who work for the coming of the Kingdom here and now. God bless you all!

All Saints Firework Party at Our Lady of Lourdes School
Come and join us for a great night of fun and fireworks on Friday 13th November from 7.00-9.00pm. Tickets - Children £3.50 Adults £5.00 - available from the School Office. As well as fantastic fireworks, you can dress up as your favourite saint to win a great prize, listen to some wonderful singing or watch Year 5 perform a short play - the Story of Joan of Arc. There will be plenty of stalls, BBQ, hot and cold drinks and for those wishing to partake in something a little stronger, lager and wine. If previous years are anything to go by, it will be a truly SPECTACULAR evening! Look forward to seeing you there!
