The Baptism of The Lord

Dear friends in Christ

The Baptism of Jesus which we celebrate this weekend recalls the moment when each of us became a Child of God.  With his divine adoption we are able to address God with the familiarity of a parent.  Today we can give thanks for the first Sacrament we received by which we enjoy communion with God in His Body the Church.

During this second month of the Year of Mercy our Parish Family Prayer Intention is: for those experiencing difficulties in Marriage and family life and for all who bear the pain of the break-up in relationships.  A small group pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy in the church every afternoon at three o'clock for this intention; if you would like to take a turn in leading this simple devotion, please sign the list which is in the Sacristy; there are small cards with the prayers, beneath the image of Jesus Divine Mercy in the Lady Chapel.

Just one year ago I was appointed Vicar General of the Diocese.  As you know, this has made certain changes necessary in my daily life and routine and I thank you for the understanding and patience you have shown over this last year, as at times I have not always been as available as I would have liked.  My thought initially was that a move to a smaller Parish would be prudent but the Bishop is happy for me to continue as your Parish Priest for the time being.  I am extremely grateful for all the help I get from within the Parish by so many of you who collaborate in the day-to-day workings; also the Clergy who offer their help with Masses when I am required to be elsewhere.  Please continue to keep me in your prayers as I am still learning how to do my work for the Bishop and our Diocese.  On Thursday 11th February - feast of Our Lady of Lourdes - there will take place the initiation of the new Canons of the Diocese during a Mass in Brentwood Cathedral at 7pm.  You are all invited!                                            May God continue to bless you all.
