Almshouse Vacancy

A vacancy has arisen at the Sir William Petre’s Almshouses in Ingatestone for someone over 50 who is in need of accommodation. The cottage, which is one of a group of twelve with a chapel, is small – it has a living room, bedroom, fitted kitchen and bathroom.  It is suitable for a single person who can live independently, as there is no warden care available.  Because of the listed nature of the building we cannot make major adaptations for someone with a disability. Please note that priority may be given to Roman Catholics.  For more information, and for an application form, please contact Homes & Watson Partnership (who manage the properties) on Tel no 01277 355200 by Friday 15th July 2016.

Director of Parish Evangelisation

The Diocese of Brentwood seeks to appoint a full time Director of Parish Evangelisation for a three-year fixed period from September. During this time the Diocese will be going through a process of discernment, decision making and change management, as we seek to make best use of our resources to promote the spread of the Gospel.

The Diocese’s “Stewards of the Gospel” initiative has seen the appointment of a body of talented lay people who will work within every parish to develop and implement a plan for evangelisation.

The Director of Parish Evangelisation, having considerable experience and expertise in evangelisation for the Catholic Church, will be responsible for the creation and promotion of a robust, de-centralised plan for evangelisation, tailored to the individual needs and opportunities in each parish of the Diocese (taking into account, where applicable, developing plans for changes to parish boundaries).

Salary £35,000 - £40,000 depending on experience.
Closing date for applications 31 July.

Fourteenth Sunday of the Year

Dear friends in Christ

The Readings at Mass this Sunday call to mind some memorable words of Pope Francis that, we must be missionary disciples of Jesus Christ. As Christ sent out the Apostles to preach the Gospel of salvation, so we too are asked to go out into the harvest and bring souls to Him. The world into which we go is, as Jesus warned them at the beginning, a hostile one. Even amongst Christians we find attitudes antipathetic to the Truth of the Gospel and teachings of the Church.  Perhaps given the wide-spread confusion and disunity in our world, this should not surprise us. However, the Church exists as a family, and in any family there can be elements and members that cause discord. Whenever we find someone who is sick or where there is dysfunction in a family, the instinctive reaction of the other members is to surround them with love and compassion. When we act like this we are being Christ-like. Only from the starting point can we even think about how we may be better missionary disciples of Jesus Christ.

This Sunday evening we shall have our Parish Annual Meeting followed by the Garden Party which begins at 6.30pm in the Parish Centre.  All Parishioners are cordially invited to this evening which is the annual way to celebrate the life of the Parish over the last year, look forward with hope to some new initiatives (like the Stewards of the Gospel project) and for me to express my gratitude for all of the prayerful support and help I receive.  God bless you all!
