Fifteenth Sunday of the Year
Dear friends in Christ
As we go through life we come across many cases of people who have been injured and left destitute and half-dead in body and soul. For Jesus, our neighbour is anyone who is close to us and has need of help. In the parable at Mass this weekend, the Good Samaritan gives a foreshadowing of the new commandment that Jesus would teach the night before He died. It was a beautiful teaching about the all encompassing mercy and kindness of God for those who have found themselves fallen on hard times. This can be through their own fault, or through suffering of mind, body or spirit, or as a result of harm inflicted by others. Everyday we meet people like this and we either walk by on the other side of the road or we can stop and minister to such people. The compassion of the Samaritan was not a purely theoretical and ineffective one. On the contrary, he managed to offer the man practical assistance. What he did was not perhaps heroic in itself but it was what the circumstances called for. God places our neighbour, and his needs, along the road of our life. Love is always ready to do whatever the immediate situation demands. It may not be anything dramatic or difficult but is simply a response to someone’s need. Jesus ends His parable by telling us: Go and do the same.
This weekend we welcome to the Parish Fr John Garry who will make an Appeal on behalf of St Patrick’s Missionary Society (Kiltegan Fathers). The Society was founded to support the missionary work of proclaiming the Good News in Nigeria and they now have missionaries in Kenya, Malawi, Zambia, South Sudan, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Brazil & Grenada. They concentrate on building up the local church through the establishment of small Christian communities. Please be generous to our brothers and sisters in these poorer countries.
I thank all those who participated in the Annual Parish Meeting last Sunday and especially those who prepared the food and drink for the Garden Party. It was good to have been able to thank the Parish for your continued work and support in that way. May God bless you all!

Almshouse Vacancy
A vacancy has arisen at the Sir William Petre’s Almshouses in Ingatestone for someone over 50 who is in need of accommodation. The cottage, which is one of a group of twelve with a chapel, is small – it has a living room, bedroom, fitted kitchen and bathroom. It is suitable for a single person who can live independently, as there is no warden care available. Because of the listed nature of the building we cannot make major adaptations for someone with a disability. Please note that priority may be given to Roman Catholics. For more information, and for an application form, please contact Homes & Watson Partnership (who manage the properties) on Tel no 01277 355200 by Friday 15th July 2016.

Serving the Homeless
Thanks to all the parishioners who attended our recent Afternoon Tea which raised £425.20. This will be used for our local homelessness projects.
The number of single young homeless, aged 16 to 25, has significantly
risen over the past six months. In order to help both HARP and the YMCA
we will be holding the following throughout the summer:
Summer Raffle - with 24 prizes - costing £1 per ticket, or £5 for a
book.
Treasure Trail - a great activity for the summer holiday with prizes -
£5 per entry.
Both of these will be on sale after the Masses on the weekends of 16th/17th and 23rd/24th July. Alternatively please ring Linda Wall 558217, Nina Bridgeman 472536 or Jo Ronan 474062 for tickets or entry forms.
Repository
Sincere apologies that the Repository has not been open lately, due to family illness & subsequent bereavement. As it would close soon anyway for the annual summer break, it will re-open on SUNDAY, 11th SEPTEMBER, 2016. Meanwhile, Mass cards are available from the Parish Office.
Pat O’Connell

Director of Parish Evangelisation
The Diocese of Brentwood seeks to appoint a full time Director of Parish Evangelisation for a three-year fixed period from September. During this time the Diocese will be going through a process of discernment, decision making and change management, as we seek to make best use of our resources to promote the spread of the Gospel.
The Diocese’s “Stewards of the Gospel” initiative has seen the appointment of a body of talented lay people who will work within every parish to develop and implement a plan for evangelisation.
The Director of Parish Evangelisation, having considerable experience and expertise in evangelisation for the Catholic Church, will be responsible for the creation and promotion of a robust, de-centralised plan for evangelisation, tailored to the individual needs and opportunities in each parish of the Diocese (taking into account, where applicable, developing plans for changes to parish boundaries).
Salary £35,000 - £40,000 depending on experience.
Closing date for applications 31 July.
