Twenty-first Sunday of the Year
Dear friends in Christ
We have just returned from our Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes, giving thanks for the graces and blessings of the last days. In shrines like Lourdes we see great gatherings of the children of the Church, gathered by Mary, to be close to Jesus in the Mass and in the Blessed Sacrament. Our Lord, through His redemptive love, is the focal point of all mankind. This is what the Prophet Isaiah foretells in the First Reading of the Mass this Sunday: a great calling of all people to faith and salvation, without distinction of language, race or social status. Likewise in the Gospel, when asked who will be saved, Jesus responds by telling us to enter by the narrow door. He goes on to teach His disciples that in order to enter His kingdom - which is the only thing that counts - it is not enough to belong to the Chosen People, or to have a false confidence in Him. All the divine privileges which we have been given are not enough either. What is needed is a faith with works, the kind of faith to which we have all been called. The image of the ancient Patriarchs - Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, represented in the artwork this week - remind us further that we are called to inherit the same life which they have with God, because of their faithfulness. All of mankind has a vocation to go to Heaven, Christ’s definitive kingdom. This is what we have been born for, because God desires all men to be saved. As we live and work and have our existence on earth, may we never lose sight of this great goal, the high dignity to which we are called, now and in eternity. God bless you!

School Admission Forms
Parents wishing to apply to Catholic Schools - primary or secondary - for next academic year are required to obtain a Letter of Catholic Practise from their Parish Priest. These will be issued on the last weekend in September, the times which will be given at the end of the Summer holidays. These are issued only to practising Catholics (i.e. those who attend weekly Mass). Furthermore, this practise of the Faith will be viewed over a period of time and not just the weeks prior to an application. Parish Priests may also look at the date of Baptism in the case of Primary School applications, noting those children who have been Baptised soon after birth as compared to those Baptised with proximity to school age. This is a matter of justice to all involved in applying for places in our Schools. Our schools are often oversubscribed and in order to be fair, preference will justly be given to those who live and practise the Faith as well as who contribute to the life of the Church through the various ways in which that support is given.

Study Day at Gidea Park
Fr Adrian Graffy, parish priest of Gidea Park and member of the Pontifical Biblical Commission, will lead a study day entitled ‘God’s Mercy is from Age to Age: the mercy of God in the Old Testament’ on Saturday 8th October from 11am until 3pm at Christ the Eternal High Priest, Gidea Park, RM2 6DH. The study day in this Year of Mercy will explore the presence of God’s mercy in the Scriptures.
Admission is free, tea and coffee will be provided, but please bring a packed lunch. Ample free parking is available at the church, which is three minutes’ walk from Gidea Park Station. It is essential to book your place and this should be done by email to GPstudydays@gmail.com

Do you have some spare time and would like to help others, then why not volunteer at Nazareth House. The Sisters are looking for people to enhance the life of the residents by sitting with them, assisting at meal times, bringing the resident out for a walk/shopping etc. You can help for as little or as long as you can and if you are there during meal time then you will be provided with a hot meal.
