The Diocese of Brentwood – 100 Years in Pictures
We have published a Souvenir Booklet to mark our Diocesan Centenary, 110 pages with more than 300 colour and black & white photographs. Copies are now available at the Repository for £7.
Scripture Group
Fr. Con's Scripture group will start fortnightly on Thursday May 11th at 8pm in the Parish Centre. We will be looking at the readings for the two following Sundays.
ABC - About Being Catholic
The series of informal talks designed to give an insight into the teachings and traditions of the Catholic church continues every Monday, starting at 8pm in the Parish Centre. There is an amended schedule for May which reads as follows:
1st May Bank Holiday - no meeting, 8th May - Pivotal Players, 15th May - Pivotal Players and Social. You are welcome to attend some or all of these talks; if you would like more information please speak to Fr Kevin or telephone Pat O’Connell on 712123.
Diocesan Centenary Pilgrimage to Walsingham Saturday 22nd July
The main celebration of our Centenary this year will take place at Walsingham and will be a Diocesan-wide event. There will be no Vigil Masses in the Diocese that evening in order to encourage as many as possible to go on this pilgrimage. Two coaches will travel from our Parish at a cost of £10 per adult, £5 per child. The coach will leave Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 8am and depart from Walsingham no later than 5pm.
If you would like to book a ticket for the coach please call in at the Parish Office as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Monies should be paid at the time of booking. The Parish Office is open from 9am to 1pm, Monday to Friday. Alternatively, put your name and cash/cheque (payable to Our Lady of Lourdes) in an envelope and post it through the Presbytery door.

Msgr George Stokes, RIP
Please pray for the repose of the soul of Msgr George Stokes, who died on Thursday morning. Msgr Stokes served as Assistant Priest in Leigh from 1977 to 1981 - and was Director of Education for our Diocese for twenty-five years. His Requiem Mass will be celebrated in Grays and there will be a Memorial Mass at a later date in Brentwood Cathedral. Details to follow. May he rest in peace.

The experience of St Thomas seeing and touching Christ on the evening of Easter Day was for him life-changing. Now he himself was a witness to the Resurrection, since he had seen and touched Him and spoken with Him. It was that encounter that gave rise to the great act of faith that we often use at Mass, when we behold Jesus at the moment of the Consecration: My Lord and my God! Today is the feast of Divine Mercy - instituted by St Pope John Paul II - because it was precisely at the moment when Jesus comes back from the dead that He chose to give the surpassing gift of Mercy to His Church. As in every other year, we shall honour the Divine Mercy of Christ with the Devotions this Sunday afternoon at 2.30pm. Integral to this Devotion is our trust in what Jesus promises us together with the reception of His Divine Pardon in the Sacrament of Mercy, Confession.

At the end of another Holy Week there are so many of you to thank! I begin by thanking all of you who sent me greetings and gifts for Easter; the generous Easter collection and for the assurance of your prayers throughout Lent and Holy Week. I am sure that the efforts we made during Lent will continue to bear much fruit as we proceed through the rest of the liturgical year. I am so very grateful to all who laboured to ensure that the Holy Week Ceremonies were worthy celebrations of the Mysteries of Faith: the musicians and altar servers; those who cleaned, prepared and decorated the church, front and back of stage! Above all, to those who prepared our New Catholics for the Sacraments received at the Easter Vigil. Thank you all for a wonderfully collaborative endeavour. May God continue to bless us during this Easter season in our Centenary Year!

March 4 Life - Saturday 20th May
2017 marks the 50th anniversary of the passing of the abortion act. To date 8.7 million babies have been aborted in the UK. Unite with all the pro-life groups across the UK in making a stand. “You are called to stand up for life! March for Life UK is the biggest pro-life festival in mainland UK which culminates in a march through the streets of Birmingham City Centre. The day begins with 10am Mass at St Chads Cathedral, then ‘Lifefest’, a massive pro-life festival in the heart of the city begins. Fun, family, friendly, yet filled with meaning, Lifefest has something for everyone. With world class speakers, the best live music, education from every major pro-life group in the UK and spiritual reflection. You are guaranteed to be inspired, educated, challenged and most of all motivated to help build a culture of life in the UK.
A coach will leave Sacred Heart Church, Southchurch at 6am picking up at Nazareth House, Westcliff, 6.15am and Our Lady of Lourdes, Leigh-on-Sea, 6.30am. The 200 Club continues to provide funds to support the running of the Parish Centre. Thanks to the support of parishioners, the sum of £5,760 has been transferred from the 200 Club account to the Parish Centre account since April 2016.
Over the past two years the number of parishioners supporting the 200 Club has fallen and we are currently 26 members short of our 200 target. Subscription is £5.00 per month, either by cash, cheque or direct debit. Catholic Women’s League
The CWL invite you to join us in a musical appreciation afternoon on 24th April, at 2pm in the Parish Centre. We will listen to some beautiful music and then be treated to some insight into how to understand what we are hearing in the different types of music, which enriches the listening experience and makes it even more pleasurable. There is no charge and tea and coffee will be served.
