Sea of Voices Choir
Now the choir has said goodbye to Alice, our first musical director, we welcome Adam Carstairs as her successor, previously providing the musical accompaniment to the choir. We do urgently need someone to take over Adam’s previous role playing keyboards for when we return after the Summer break in September.
We also would welcome new members to the choir. No auditions - we don’t bite, we sing! Anyone who is interested or know someone who might be, please contact Darrell on 07825686249. From this week onwards choir is on a Thursday, starting on 13th September, 7.45pm for 8pm start.
Come and Pray for Vocations at our Deanery Holy Hour
This coming Wednesday, 12th September at 7.30pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Church (1 Cliffsea Grove, Leigh-on-Sea SS9 1NG). All are welcome, whether you are discerning a vocation to the priesthood or want to pray for those who are. This event will include a Vocations testimony from Rev Mgr Canon Kevin Hale, VG.

Join the Deanery Stewards of the Gospel Group at Nazareth House for an inspiring TV quality exploration of Mary, past and present. Filmed on location in Walsingham, the Holy Land, Ephesus, Rome, Montserrat, Lourdes and Knock.6 sessions starting on Monday 8th October at Nazareth House – 7:30pm start in the main hall. Session 1 – Chosen By God; Session 2 – The First Disciple; Session 3 – Mother Of All; Session 4 – Queen of Heaven; Session 5 – Help of christians. Our final session will concentrate on Miracles. Each film is 25 minutes approximately long to be followed by a Q&A discussion. Input from experts such as Cardinal Vincent Nichols, Fr Raniero Cantalamessa, Mgr John Armitage, Dr Sarah Boss, Fr Jim McManus, Sr Catherine Droste and others… Entrance is free but a small donation towards the running costs of Nazareth House would be most welcome.
First Holy Communion 2018/2019
There will be a parent’s meeting on Thursday 20th September at 8pm in the Parish Centre for those parents who have registered their child for First Holy Communion next year.

THE MASS – New from Bishop Barron
There will be a screening of the new Bishop Barron series, The Mass, where we will walk through the Liturgy with Bishop Barron and see how the Mass brings us out of the fallen world and into the heavenly realm.
The Mass series will help you understand how to fully, consciously, and actively participate in the source and summit of the Christian life, and, most importantly, how we are intimately joined with the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus through the Holy Eucharist.
The series will be shown in 3 parts, starting at 8pm on Monday 10th September 2018 in the Parish Centre. Please join us!

School Admission Forms for Primary and Secondary Schools
Parents wishing to apply to Catholic Primary Schools for the next academic year are required to obtain a Letter of Catholic Practise from their Parish Priest. This must be requested from your Parish Priest in person and only one per child will be issued. Please come to the Parish Centre for these on Wednesday, 10th October between 6pm and 8pm or Wednesday, 17th October between 6pm and 7pm.
These are issued only to practising Catholics (i.e. those who attend weekly Mass). Furthermore, this practise of the Faith will be viewed over a period of time and not just the weeks prior to an application. Parish Priests may also look at the date of Baptism, noting those children who have been Baptised soon after birth as compared to those Baptised with proximity to school age. This is a matter of justice to all involved in applying for places in our Schools. Our schools are often oversubscribed and in order to be fair, preference will justly be given to those who live and practise the Faith as well as who contribute to the life of the Church through the various ways in which that support is given. If you are not a practising Catholic this Certificate will not be given; you may still apply to a Catholic School but your application will considered under another category for Admissions.

A Day of Reflection & Enrichment for Readers
Calling all who read the Words of Scripture at Mass. A day of reflection and enrichment has been arranged to take place at The Becket Centre, Woodford Green on Saturday 20th October led by Dr Marian Tolley from Shrewsbury Diocese. Marian has travelled throughout Britain running courses for Readers for many years; has a highly respected reputation for running work-shops in liturgical music; the training of deacons and for speaking on various topics relating to the liturgy. The day will start at 10am with registration & refreshments and will end at 4pm. Please bring a packed lunch, tea and coffee will be available during the day. If you are interested, please give your name to the Parish Office as car-sharing may be available.
St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP) ‘Awareness Month’ 2018
The focus of our work at the St Vincent de Paul Society is visiting and befriending people living in isolation and poverty. The people we visit could be refugees, the elderly, the homeless, people staying in hospital or care homes, people with mental health issues or offenders. Conference members work on the ground level, face to face with the people they help. Here are a few statistics highlighting the work of our Conferences:-
* Last year 9,500 members helped 75,000 beneficiaries.
* 45% of the people we visited were the elderly in their own homes.
* The Society made 470,000 visits.
* Material and practical assistance was offered to 88,000 people and families.

As the summer holiday season draws to an end, first may I on all our behalf offer prayers and congratulations to all our youngsters who have recently received exam results, and to the teachers who prepared them. Let’s pray too for those going to university, especially for the first time. We wish all of our students and teachers a very happy and fruitful, new academic year!

As the summer holiday season draws to an end, first may I on all our behalf offer prayers and congratulations to all our youngsters who have recently received exam results, and to the teachers who prepared them. I hope that my reflections on the parts of the Mass over the last five weeks have been helpful. You can access these Homilies via the link on the Parish website or at iTunes. Printed copies are also available from the Parish Office.
We will begin live-streaming of liturgies from the church this week. It is now possible to follow Mass and other Services via the link embedded in the Parish website. This can enable anyone who wishes, to follow our Parish worship on line, or make a virtual visit to the church and Tabernacle 24/7. It is not, obviously, a substitute for actually being present!
Next weekend in Liverpool our national Eucharistic Congress is taking place; it is the first in our country for over a hundred years. I shall be attending with our Bishop along with several parishioners. The theme of the Congress is Adoremus…Let us adore! The purpose of this and any Eucharistic Congress is to provide an extended time for prayer, refection and celebration of the most central Christian Mystery of Faith. We live in times very different to when the last Congress took place in 1908, when Catholics were not permitted to go in procession through London with the Blessed Sacrament. Next Sunday the Congress will conclude with a Eucharistic Procession through the streets of Liverpool, giving testament to our belief in the presence of Jesus amongst us in the Blessed Sacrament. Do please follow the events on the Congress by keeping it in your prayers, in much the same way as we prayed for the World Meeting of Families in Dublin last weekend. There is much to pray for at this time and what we need at this time can only genuinely be sought through prayer and penance.

13th October 2018, 10am to 4pm, in Leigh-on-Sea at the junction of Broadway West and Elm Road. We would be very grateful for any help collecting for HARP. No experience required.
