Bereavement Support Group
Our next Meeting is on Wednesday 20th November at 2pm in the Parish Centre (Bernadette room). This Group welcomes all adults who have experienced loss and bereavement in a confidential and friendly environment. Enquiries to: cynthiabush11@googlemail.com or elizabeth.dex@btinternet.net

Envelopes for the November dead list are at the back of the church. Please place names and offering in the box provided, also at the back of church. Throughout November there is a weekly mass for the Holy Souls and those whose names are placed under the Altar are remembered in these Masses and Offices.

Pauline Godfrey, RIP who died on Wednesday, 30th October. Her Body will be received into the Church on Thursday 21st November at 5pm. Her Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Friday 22nd November at 1.30pm, followed by committal at Southend Crematorium.
John Butler, RIP who died on Tuesday 29th October. His Body will be received into the Church on Sunday 24th November at 6.15pm. His Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Monday 25th November at 10am, followed by committal at Sutton Road Cemetery.
Lynn Gopee, RIP who died on Friday 25th October. Her Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday 27th November at 11am, followed by committal at Southend Crematorium.

Sacred Scripture teaches us that death was not part of God's original plan for mankind. It is a consequence of the sin of our first parents. Through His resurrection Christ demonstrated His power over death: God our Father, by raising Christ Your Son you conquered the power of death and open for us the way to eternal life. So prays the Church in the opening prayer of the Easter Mass. With His Resurrection Christ has robbed death of its sting. He has made His death an act of redemption. It is to Him and with Him and in Him that our bodies will rise again on the last day.

They will be united with our souls, which if we have been faithful, will have been giving glory to God since the time of our death, if there was no need for purification. To resurrect means to lift up something that has fallen down, to bring again to life that which was dead, to restore to life that which is succumbed to dust. The Church has always taught that the Resurrection of Christ is the foundation of our faith, she consistently believes in the resurrection of our physical bodies in which we live, subsist and move. The soul will then be reunited with its proper body. Our meditation on these teachings, especially in the readings of the Mass of this Sunday, help us to grasp the great dignity of each person, a dignity which is distinct and superior to that of any other being in creation. Human beings not only have free will, but we are the divine masterpiece made in the image and likeness of our Creator, gifted with an immortal soul by divine gift (St Cyril of Jerusalem). Man is superior to all other creatures because he can be a temple of the Holy Spirit, as long, that is, as we are in a state of grace. St Paul insisted with the early Christians on the importance of this idea: Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God? During this month of November, we renew our faith and hope in the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting, and pray with renewed vigour, for the souls of our departed brothers and sisters in the Faith. May God bless you and may the souls of the Faithful departed, rest in peace.

Parish Christmas Bazaar Sunday 1st December 8.30am to 1.30pm
Many thanks to all who have donated so far for the Church Bazaar on Sunday
1st December. Please keep donating, we particularly need any unwanted, unused gifts and toiletries, bottles, craft items, bric-a-brac and good condition books. All can be left safely in the old baptistery at back of church. We will also need, on the Saturday, any home made cake donations straight to the parish Centre! Many thanks for your support.
Sacred Heart Winter Night Shelter
This year’s homeless shelter will run in Sacred Heart Church Hall on Wednesdays from 4th December to 25th March 2020. If you wish to volunteer in whatever capacity, whether it be for an hour or to work the overnight shift, cook for 35 or work behind the scenes, please pick up a volunteer application form from the porch and return it to Sacred Heart Presbytery (418 Southchurch Road, Southend SS1 2QB) by Sunday 17th November. Whatever you choose to do, it is of equal importance and the shelter would fail without you. We look forward to receiving your form and working with you this winter, bringing the Gospel to life as we once again bear witness to our Lord's marvellous works. Lourdes Ladies Group
Meeting Thursday, 14th November at 10.30am. Please come and give support to our well known Parishioners, Paul and Diane Watts, who will be talking about the wonderful work of the Across Trust which helps the sick and disabled on Pilgrimage to Lourdes. Walsingham House at Abbotswick Volunteer Team 2020-21
We are currently looking for young adults aged 18+ either currently in year 13 or coming to the end of their degree or apprenticeship, who would like to take up a gap year opportunity like no other. You will live alongside 9 other people your age at our beautiful house in the countryside and lead retreats for over 7000 young people, from ages 10-18 and help them engage with their faith in a new way. Over the year you will develop communication and public speaking skills whilst growing in faith and friendship. Accommodation, food and two trips abroad are all included.
