Reading at weekend Mass - Volunteers welcome
Readers participating in the Liturgy of the Word play an essential role in the Mass, and the parish is looking for more volunteers to read. Pre-Covid there were usually two readers per weekend Mass and we would like to get back to that arrangement again if possible. It would also be wonderful if we could have readers from all age groups - including our young people.
On average people read about once every 4-5 weeks, and the rota is flexible to fit in with holiday and other commitments. You don't have to have read before and training can be provided. If you want to experience what reading would be like before deciding whether to read regularly, a one-off reading opportunity can be arranged too.
So if you would like to find out more and give reading a try, please go to the volunteering page on the website and send us your details Volunteer (lourdesleigh.org) and Jackie Sullens will be in touch. Thank you.
Contactless Payments/Offerings
The contactless device is now permanently situated at the back of the church and may be used for Offertory and Second Collection offerings, Repository payments, candles, SVP and other stipends.
Bereavement Support Group
If you are in need of individual or Group Counselling and support, please leave your name and contact details with the Parish Office. All enquiries received in strict confidence.

Calling all Catholic Men
Are you looking to be part of a group of proudly Catholic gentlemen, interested in faith, fraternity and family?
A place to talk with other men about the challenges of work and raising a Catholic family, a place where we can share our faith and find ourselves encouraged to be better husbands, fathers, brothers and sons. The Southend Catenian Association could be just what you are looking for! Call Mark Lambert on 0795 101 8735 and come and see what we are all about.

Twelfth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Dear friends in Christ
The month of June comes to a highpoint with the celebration of Saints Peter and Paul on Thursday. We have already celebrated some of the most beautiful feasts of the calendar this month and now with the celebration of the heavenly twins we rejoice that Jesus has built His Church on the foundation of these two Saints. Peter brought the Faith to Rome and was executed there around the year 64AD; Paul, after his conversion, brought the Faith to every corner of the known-world
Dear friends in Christ
The month of June comes to a highpoint with the celebration of Saints Peter and Paul on Thursday. We have already celebrated some of the most beautiful feasts of the calendar this month and now with the celebration of the heavenly twins we rejoice that Jesus has built His Church on the foundation of these two Saints. Peter brought the Faith to Rome and was executed there around the year 64AD; Paul, after his conversion, brought the Faith to every corner of the known-world. The Preface of the Mass on 29th reminds us of this: For by your providence the blessed Apostles Peter and Paul bring us joy: Peter, foremost in confessing the faith, Paul, its outstanding preacher, Peter, who established the early Church from the remnant of Israel, Paul, master and teacher of the Gentiles that you call. Thursday is a Holyday of Obligation and in the morning we will have the participation of our Primary School at the Mass.
Next Friday, 30th June--feast of the First Martyrs of Rome—Father Cornelius Joyce will celebrate his sixtieth anniversary of Priestly Ordination! This is a great and wonderful milestone in his life and the life of our Diocese. Father Con was Ordained on 30 June 1963 and entered the service of Diocese of Brentwood in 1966 he was Assistant Priest in Collier Row (1966-1967), Saffron Walden (1967-1968), Brentwood (1968-1973), Walthamstow (1973-1975), Brentwood (1976-1977), Aveley (1977-1979); then Parish Priest of Custom House (1975-1976), Hutton (1979-1989), Dagenham (1989-1995), Southend-on-Sea (1995-2001) before retiring to Leigh. When I arrived in the Parish in October 2003 Fr Con was already resident and from then until the present time has been an invaluable help: celebrating a weekly Sunday Mass, helping on the occasions when I am away from the Parish and being a quiet presence whilst visiting the sick and the needy. I know how much his ministry has been, and is, so valued. Father Con will celebrate the midday Mass on Friday after which there will be a celebration in the Parish Centre to which all are invited. May God grant him many more years of Priestly life and in the traditional way we wish him: Ad multos annos!
May God bless him and all of you!

Flower Festival Saturday - 8th July
It is that time of year again! On Saturday 8th July we hope to fill the church with flowers, needlework, paintings etc. The theme this year is Miracles, Parables and Proverbs.
Thank you to all who are already taking part, but there is still time if you want to have a go at making something to display. Contact Jo on 01702 474062 0r email, mcronan@btinternet.com
We would appreciate donations of flowers on Friday morning, 7th July, when we will be putting displays together. They can be brought to the church or Parish Centre before 12.00pm.
Most importantly please come along on Saturday 8th and encourage friends and neighbours to pop in as well, and maybe have some refreshments in the Parish Centre while they are there.
