Flower & Craft Festival Saturday 6th July 2024

It is time to start preparations for this year’s Flower and Craft Festival! The Theme this year is ‘PRAYER.’

We would love to have as many people as possible to take part. Simply choose a prayer or prayers and think about how that can be illustrated visually with Flowers, Art work, Artefacts, Needlework etc.

The Festival day is always a very inspiring occasion with people from all faiths or none dropping into our beautiful Church. We have been overwhelmed by the positive response that there has been over the last few years to our themes.

If you would like to take part please email me at : mcronan@btinternet.com, or simply speak to me or Theresa.

If you are not sure about a suitable prayer then I have lots to choose from. Jo Ronan

Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord

Dear friends in Christ

A happy and blessed Easter to all of our Parish family!

Dear friends in Christ

A happy and blessed Easter to all of our Parish family!

Having reached the end of our Lenten Pilgrimage, I assure you of my prayers which in a special way go to all those who need to hear the message of hope and joy that the Resurrection of Jesus brings. I think in particular of the sick and suffering; those estranged from God and from friends and family; those who have experienced sorrow and grief in recent times. May the light of Christ rising out of the darkness bring hope to all our lives, especially to all those peoples and lands where the peace of Christ is so awaited.

We welcome into the Church this Easter those who are enriched with the grace of the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and the Blessed Eucharist: James Green, Joanne Green, Charlotte Walker, Paul Cox, Angela Lucianna, Diogo de Azevedo, Azaria Nichols. Next Sunday we will welcome Tommy Brunning and Katelyn Gallacher. May these, and all who have found their home in the Church of Jesus Christ, live fully the life of grace that we are all privileged to share.

On behalf of everyone, I thank those who have played their part in making the Lenten season one of opportunity to encounter Jesus. Also, those who have collaborated in the Holy Week ceremonies which have assisted us in reliving once again the saving mysteries of Jesus Christ.

May God bless you and keep you all in His love and protection.

Msgr Kevin Hale

We pray for the sick of our parish

Father,
by the power of your Spirit
you have filled the hearts of your faithful people
with gifts of love for one another.
Hear the prayers we offer for our relatives and friends.
Give them health of mind and body
that they may do your will with perfect love.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord

Dear friends in Christ

We are at the start of the Great Week once again!

Dear friends in Christ

We are at the start of the Great Week once again! All of the feasts and mysteries in the life of Our Lord have led us to the events of the Paschal Triduum: Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter. We have to view these as a single celebration inasmuch as the Last Supper, Jesus’ death on the Cross and His rising from the dead are the three facets of our redemption in Christ. I suggest that we commit to being present at each of these liturgies so that we may gain a sense of what Jesus has done, and continues to do for us in His Mysteries. We have been preparing throughout Lent for these next days and if we can accompany Jesus in his Passion, we will meet Him in His glory on Sunday. It might be helpful, in our prayer, to see ourselves as one of those who were present during the events of Holy Week. Saint Gregory of Nazianzen preaching in the fourth century, gives us some helpful advice on how we might do this:  Let us take our part in the Passover prescribed by the law, not in a literal way, but according to the teaching of the Gospel; not in an imperfect way, but perfectly; not only for a time, but eternally...We must sacrifice ourselves to God, each day and in everything we do, accepting all that happens to us for the sake of the Word, imitating his passion by our sufferings, and honouring his blood by shedding our own. We must be ready to be crucified. If you are a Simon of Cyrene, take up your cross and follow Christ. If you are crucified beside him like one of the thieves, now, like the good thief, acknowledge your God. For your sake, and because of your sin, Christ himself was regarded as a sinner; for his sake, therefore, you must cease to sin. Worship him who was hung on the cross because of you, even if you are hanging there yourself. Derive some benefit from the very shame; purchase salvation with your death. Enter paradise with Jesus, and discover how far you have fallen. Contemplate the glories there, and leave the other scoffing thief to die outside in his blasphemy. If you are a Joseph of Arimathea, go to the one who ordered his crucifixion, and ask for Christ’s body. Make your own the expiation for the sins of the whole world. If you are a Nicodemus, like the man who worshipped God by night, bring spices and prepare Christ’s body for burial. If you are one of the Marys, or Salome, or Joanna, weep in the early morning. Be the first to see the stone rolled back, and even the angels perhaps, and Jesus himself. (From a Sermon on the Passion)
