Flower & Craft Festival Saturday 6th July 2024

It is time to start preparations for this year’s Flower and Craft Festival! The Theme this year is ‘PRAYER.’

We would love to have as many people as possible to take part. Simply choose a prayer or prayers and think about how that can be illustrated visually with Flowers, Art work, Artefacts, Needlework etc.

The Festival day is always a very inspiring occasion with people from all faiths or none dropping into our beautiful Church. We have been overwhelmed by the positive response that there has been over the last few years to our themes.

If you would like to take part please email me at : mcronan@btinternet.com, or simply speak to me or Theresa.

If you are not sure about a suitable prayer then I have lots to choose from.

Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear friends in Christ

The month of June—month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus—is a period in the liturgical calendar rich with beautiful feasts. We have already celebrated Corpus Christi last weekend marked with our Eucharistic Procession. Friday was the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and this Saturday is the Immaculate Heart of Mary. On Thursday we shall celebrate one of my patrons and great favourites of many—St Antony of Padua (or Lisbon, depending on your view!)—then the Nativity of St John the Baptist on 24th and the month ends with Saints Peter and Paul, the Princes of the Apostles! These all remind us that there is a rhythm to the Church Year, which begins in Advent and takes us through the mysteries of the life of Jesus, culminating with Easter and Pentecost. The remainder of the year now is called Ordinary Time. A friend of mine used to say that since the Resurrection there is no such thing as Ordinary Time! The Resurrection of Jesus changed everything so that we live now in a cosmic dimension, here on earth, but participants in the supernatural life.

The Readings of the Mass this weekend remind us that we have been called by God to live on a higher plane than the created material world. We are called to live the life of God—divine life. We do this in the midst of ordinary things, living sustained by the sanctifying grace of the Sacraments. Our struggle here on earth is worth every ounce of effort we put into it, since our crown in Heaven will be given in proportion to the effort we have made to give glory to God on earth.

One of the ways we can sanctify our homes and family life in the month of June is by consecrating our homes and families to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This can be done by enshrining an image of Jesus at the centre of our homes so that we—and everyone who comes in—is reminded that we are part of the Family of the Church—the Body of Christ—sons and daughters of the Father.

Thanks be to God for a beautiful Corpus Christi Procession last Sunday afternoon—all of us who attended will have been grateful for the fine weather, the music and the faith, of all those who came to make this annual act of homage to our Eucharistic Lord. I thank the Tilbury Brass band for attending, the children and altar servers for their devotion and our gratitude to those who prepared the Tea afterwards!

God bless you all!

Msgr Kevin Hale

We pray for our sick

The Sick List is available on the website main menu, under Worship.

We pray for the sick of our parish

Father,
by the power of your Spirit
you have filled the hearts of your faithful people
with gifts of love for one another.
Hear the prayers we offer for our relatives and friends.
Give them health of mind and body
that they may do your will with perfect love.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.
