Parish Fundraising

Thank you to everyone who currently supports the 200 Club. Over the past few years, the money raised from this account has been used to help pay for the redecoration of the reredos, also the bells, as well as other maintenance work. It has now become apparent that the boiler in the Presbytery will need to be renewed so future funds will be allocated to this.
During the last twelve months, and especially recently, we have lost a number of members. Would you consider joining the 200 Club? If so, forms are available at the back of the church. Alternatively, you can telephone Linda Wall on 01702 558217.

The winners of the draw this month are:

Flower and Craft Festival 2025

This year’s festival will be on Saturday 5th July from 11.00am to 4.30pm.

It is less than 8 weeks now until our Flower & Craft Festival; thank you to everyone who has already committed to taking part. If you have not taken part before please consider doing so this year. It is part of our mission here in Leigh to give local people an opportunity to experience what our Church is all about, especially in this Jubilee Year of Hope.

We are asking you once again to get creative, in flowers, arts and crafts. None of us are professionals, we are not expecting perfection ! There will be plenty of people on hand to help you if you need it.

The theme this year is the hymn,

‘O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder consider all the worlds Thy Hand has made…….’

So the focus is on creation, but this year we are also celebrating the opening of our beautiful church 100 years ago. We are also in a Jubilee Year, the focus of which is ‘Hope.’ We are to be pilgrims of hope in our very troubled and dangerous world. So there are many themes to choose from. Photographers, artists, needleworkers, carpenters and gardeners, we would like as many people as possible to be involved in creating a beautiful and powerful message for our local community of Leigh.

We are not asking for professionalism, although professionals are very welcome indeed ! Just your enthusiasm.

If you would like to be involved in creating something for 5th July please contact me at

mcronan@btinternet.com or speak to me after 9.30 mass on Sundays.

Fifth Sunday of Easter

Dear friends in Christ

Over these Sundays of Eastertide we hear at Mass from the Book of Revelation.

Dear friends in Christ

Over these Sundays of Eastertide we hear at Mass from the Book of Revelation. This final Book of the Bible is full of symbolic and sometimes extra-ordinary insights into the life of eternity. In the extract at Mass this weekend, Saint John sees Heaven as the new Jerusalem. Even though John’s visions are sometimes difficult to comprehend, nonetheless something of importance is being revealed to us, so we try to watch and listen with attention to what he is revealing to us: the life to which we are all being called, and of which we have an anticipation and participation here on earth already.

This Sunday sees the Solemn Inauguration of the Pontificate of His Holiness, Pope Leo XIV. How fortunate we are to have been given a new Universal Shepherd. We thank God for this Vicar of Christ on earth. Saint Catherine of Siena would call the Pope il dolce Cristo in terra—the sweet Christ on earth. Not only has God given us a man of significant stature and charisma, but also a man who is so clearly kind, charming and benevolent. I am aware that there are some Parishioners going to be present in St Peter’s Square this Sunday morning for the Mass, so our Parish Family will be represented there! Since his election on 8th May, his words to the Church have been so full of faith, encouraging and centred on Christ. He has a palpable love of the Blessed Virgin—Our Lady of Good Counsel—who is a special Protectress of his Augustinian Order. One of his first visits outside of the Vatican last Saturday was to her Sanctuary at Genazzano. We very much believe his election is an opportunity for the Church to shine once again as a bright beacon of hope for our world. Let us pray for him constantly, that in the task entrusted to him—to strengthen the faith of God’s Holy People—he may truly fulfil the role of Peter’s Successor. We pray in the words of the ancient prayer: Oremus pro Pontifice nostro Leone…Let us pray for Leo our Pope. May the Lord preserve him, and give him life, and make him blessed upon the earth, and deliver him not up to the will of his enemies. (Ps 40:3)

May God bless all of you too!

Msgr Kevin Hale
