The shrine of Montligeon in N.W. France is dedicated solely to prayer for the Holy Souls in Purgatory. If you are interested in joining a pilgrimage from 6th to 10th July travelling by coach, please ring Maura 478661 or Susan 475526 for further details.

Mario Piacentini who died on Monday, 22nd December. His body will be received into the Church at 5pm on Wednesday 14th January and his Requiem Mass will take place at 10am on Thursday 15th January, followed by committal at Southend Crematorium.
Christopher Mabey who died on Saturday, 20th December. His Requiem Mass will take place on Friday 16th January at 12 Noon followed by committal at Sutton Road Cemetery.

Dear friends in Christ
I wish you all every peace, grace and blessing for the New Year which has just begun!
The Epiphany, which is celebrated this weekend, has a twofold lesson: the worship of God by man, and as a result of that, the proclaiming of Christ to our world. What we do in church by our adoration of God, must continue in the work of bringing Christ to our world: the work of evangelisation. This is what the Magi show us, and with the same faith, we can imitate their actions.
Thank you all so much for the many, many greetings I received from you over the Christmas season: your prayers, cards, gifts and the generous Christmas Offerings. As usual, the celebration of the Nativity in our Parish continues to be a joyous, beautiful and worthy affair. So many of you collaborate in making possible the dignified celebration of the liturgy and all that surrounds it: those who prepare the church and keep it looking so pristine week-after-week; those involved with the liturgical celebrations; and so many others, seen and unseen! The care taken, and the investment of time and resources for the worship of God, is something which I never take-for-granted, and is something which is appreciated by both members of the Parish Family and those who visit our Parish. It is a testament to the untiring commitment and generosity of you all. May God bless you!

Christmas Shoebox Appeal Update
The destination of your filled shoeboxes this year was to Zambia and maybe some other African countries. Also, for the first time 60,000 shoeboxes were airlifted to the troubled Northern Iraq region. Thanks on behalf of all the children.

Care Assistant required for a small convent community based close to the seafront in Westcliff. The person we are looking for will have some experience and knowledge of working in a care environment, (although this is not essential as training will be given) and have a flexible approach to work.

SPUC—White Flower Appeal
Since 1967, the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children has been striving to change unfair laws and policies and highlight the plight of the millions of unborn children who have been killed by abortion in the UK. SPUC’s work is aimed at securing protection for unborn babies and providing real help for their parents, so a new baby gets the best possible start in life, regardless of the circumstances in which the child is conceived. All of the Society’s work has been funded by the generous gifts of caring individuals who understand the value of each individual human life.
There will be a collection after each Mass next weekend for this worthy cause; please give as generously as you can.
