CWL Christmas Hamper
Tickets for our Christmas Hamper Raffle will be on sale in the next few weeks. All proceeds will be donated to the local Homeless Project and the CWL Charities.
Parish Christmas Bazaar - Saturday 5th December
Many thanks to all who have already made donations and purchased your Grand Prize Draw tickets for the Parish Bazaar (all proceeds going to Christian Syrian Refugees.) With only 2 weekends left before this annual family event we are in particular need of your donations of bottles. These can be anything from sauce to soft drink to alcohol for our bottle stall. Please do not leave bottles of alcohol at the back of church, but take them to the Parish Office. We are also still accepting any other donations of gift items, craft items, toys, books and bric a brac (no jumble please)! And of course if you need your donations collected please do not hesitate to contact Sue on 07816141492 or 01702 479646. Grand Prize Draw tickets are still available at the back of church and any completed counterfoils and money should be returned to Parish Office before 5th December. Any cake donations can be dropped off in Parish centre on the 4th or morning of the 5th. If you are able to help out on the 4th setting up or on the day of Bazaar please contact as above. Many thanks once again - it would not be possible without all your support.
Live Simply
How can we respond to the harrowing images we see on TV caused by war, poverty and climate change? If you have an afternoon to spare, why not join The Peoples’ Climate March in London on Sunday 29th November? Details on the CAFOD website. The Live Simply group meets every Monday in the Bernadette Room of the Parish Centre from 10.15-11.45am. All are welcome.

Dear friends in Christ
The scene portrayed for us in the liturgy of the Word this weekend is that of the final judgement. In the famous fresco of Michelangelo in the Sistine Chapel, we see Christ coming upon clouds of glory and the souls of the saved to the right and those of the damned on the left. It is a biblical and artistic image designed to focus our thoughts on the afterlife. After death comes judgement when we shall be required to see our lives as they have been and give an account of the talents we have received. One of the early Fathers of the Church - St Cyril of Jerusalem - teaches: At His Second Coming all men will be obliged to submit to His reign, whether they want to or not…This is why we pray in the Creed that we believe in Him ‘who ascended into Heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.’ As we live in time on this earth, it is vitally important that we keep ever before us the truth that this moment will come, for us, and for the entire world.
This weekend I ask you to begin signing the lists for Watching before the Blessed Sacrament during The Forty Hours Prayer which begins on Thursday 26th of this month. Candles may also be had from the Sacristy or Parish Office.
As we approach the start of the Jubilee Year of Mercy you will find a special edition of the Magnificat prayer book available at the back of church, priced five pounds. This is a very good and helpful resource with prayers, meditations and readings for the Year. The Bishop will inaugurate the Jubilee with a Mass in Brentwood Cathedral on 8th December at 7.00pm With every blessing!

National Youth Sunday
Next Sunday, the Feast of Christ the King, is the day when the Church across England and Wales particularly celebrates young people. Pope Francis has said to young people: “God has given you great gifts. Dare to dream of great things.” The Brentwood Catholic Youth Service and Walsingham House are a key part of our support for young people within the Diocese, and there is a second collection next weekend to help their work, including – for example – providing bursaries for young people in financial need to come to Lourdes. Please be as generous as you can in supporting this collection. Thank you.

Our National Action Project in aid of Mary’s Meals, which closed on 31st October 2015, raised a magnificent net final total of £175,290.18p. Mary’s Meals feed a child in Africa for £12 per year with the additional bonus the meal is served in school ensuring the child receives an education. Your local Council of the Knights of Saint Columba can always do with more help. Each year during this Mass the children of the Parish are invited to present gifts suitable for needy children, wrapped and labelled with the appropriate age. These will be distributed by the Brentwood Catholic Children’s Society.
