Diocesan Centenary Pilgrimage to Walsingham Saturday 22nd July

The main celebration of our Centenary this year will take place at Walsingham and will be a Diocesan-wide event.  There will be no Vigil Masses in the Diocese that evening in order to encourage as many as possible to go on this pilgrimage.  Two coaches will travel from our Parish at a cost of £10 per adult, £5 per child.  The coach will leave Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 8am and depart from Walsingham no later than 5pm.  If you would like to book a ticket for the coach please call in at the Parish Office as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.  Monies should be paid at the time of booking.  The Parish Office is open from 9am to 1pm, Monday to Friday.  Alternatively, put your name and cash/cheque (payable to Our Lady of Lourdes) in an envelope and post it through the Presbytery door.

Pentecost Sunday - 4th June 2017

Dear Friends in Christ

The celebration of Pentecost - fifty days later  - completes the celebration of Easter and the resurrection.  It not simply completes it but fulfils it because the promised Holy Spirit is sent so that the Church may be born.  It was a dramatic moment, as we hear in the Acts of the Apostles. The coming of God the Holy Spirit was accompanied by the phenomena of wind and fire. Today in our Parish, and in many places throughout the Church, the Holy Spirit is given to young people as they are Confirmed.  This is the third Sacrament of Initiation and makes their membership of the Church - the Body of Christ - complete. We pray for those in our Parish who are being Confirmed, for their Sponsors and families that, promoted by the grace of the Holy Spirit, they will feel empowered to bring Christ to our world.

Pentecost calls each of us to renew the grace of our Baptism and Confirmation so that we can proclaim Jesus Christ crucified and risen from the dead. Christ risen from the dead and glorified in Heaven is the essence of what we tell the world.  It is the only sign of hope for mankind.  In a world that is so sunk in violence and despair at the present time, the definitive victory of Christ gives us confidence that we have the Truth.  There is only one Truth about God and that has been given to us, revealed, by Jesus Christ. He is The Lord of history and looking at Him the world will be saved. This Pentecost the Holy Spirit again gives us the fortitude to make Him better known and loved so that mankind can be saved through Him. Let us pray, and live, in the words of the Sequence of the Mass of Pentecost:
Light immortal, Light divine,
Visit Thou these hearts of Thine,
And our inmost being fill...
Give them comfort when they die,
Give them life with Thee on high;
Give them joys that never end!

With every blessing.

Lourdes Fund

There has been a small Fund in the Parish to assist young people going on pilgrimage to Lourdes for some years now. It was first endowed by the late Bishop Patrick Casey and has practically dried-up.  If there are any groups or individuals who through fundraising or donations would like to continue to endow this Fund then please make any donations payable to the Parish of Leigh-on-Sea and designated it for the Lourdes Fund.  Many thanks.

Annual Collection for our Sick and Retired Clergy

The Annual Collection for our Sick and Retired Clergy is due to be taken on the weekend of 17th/18th June this year.  The Administrators of the Fund take this opportunity to thank Parishes for their continued generosity.

The Sick & Retired Clergy Fund is part of the Diocesan Charity which helps and supports our retired and sick clergy.  As a Charity we rely on the generosity of the Parishes and individual donations to keep the Fund in a healthy state.  Another valuable means is by including a bequest in your Will; a Form of Bequest can be found on page 36 of the Brentwood Diocesan Directory.  Your generosity through donations, the annual collection and bequests is greatly appreciated.  Thank you for your continued help and support.
