Kwasnica Quiz Night - Saturday 12th May 2018
It is that time of year when the Kwasnicas start fundraising again. This year three of us are off to Lourdes with the BCYS (Brentwood Catholic Youth Service). It is a week of service (assisting the sick and elderly pilgrims by pushing wheelchairs and engaging in conversations etc.) and spiritual growth. We gain through giving. However, as you may remember from previous years, the young people do need to pay for their own travel and accommodation. So to begin our fundraising, please get your friends and family and join us for a fabulous evening of trivia courtesy of Mr Andy Abel - Quiz Master extraordinaire! Tickets cost £5. Bring your own drinks and nibbles. 7:30 pm start in the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Centre. Many thanks,Joseph, Rachel and Jacob.

Evangelisation & Forming Intentional Disciples
On Tuesday we reached the culmination of our Forming Intentional Disciples initiative with a meeting to discuss how the journey had affected us both as individuals and as a group. We acknowledged that learning more about the way we live our faith, how we approach our prayer lives and other people had changed and that we felt inspired to do more to put Christ at the centre of our lives and at the centre of our Parish family. We agreed that we want to share this with all our Parish family as well as with others in our community. In order to begin to achieve this, we are setting up a Parish Evangelisation Team, which will meet on a monthly basis to consider varied ways in which we can pray, learn and grow in faith together in our Parish, but also reach out to lapsed Catholics and those who might be interested in finding out more about our beautiful Catholic faith. This team is open to every single member of our Parish family whether you have been to the Forming Intentional Disciples meetings or not. It will be firmly rooted in sound Catholic teaching and overseen by Fr. Kevin. It will meet on the first Thursday of each month, starting on the 7th of June at 8pm in the Clement Room to discuss and organise different projects in the Parish for faith formation and evangelisation. It will provide a hub for knowledge about all the areas of outreach in our Parish that already exist, as well as a forum for training, building knowledge, support and a springboard for new ideas and projects. We are all very excited as we move forward with this plan and really hope to see you on the 7th June!

Fourth Sunday of Easter
Dear Friends in christ
The Fourth Sunday of Easter each year is Good Shepherd Sunday. In the Gospel of St John, Jesus describes Himself as the Good Shepherd, because He is the one who is prepared to lay down His life for the ones He loves. This is also the Day of Prayer for Vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life. This year, our seminarians - those training to be priests for our Diocese - are going out into our Parishes to introduce themselves to our people and speak at Mass about their call to Priesthood and the Religious vocation.

This year, our seminarians - those training to be priests for our Diocese - are going out into our Parishes to introduce themselves to our people and speak at Mass about their call to Priesthood and the Religious vocation. We welcome this weekend Mr Michael Barwick who will speak at our Masses. Michael is from Chelmsford and is a student at St Mary’s College, Oscott. He is very welcome to Leigh and I am sure he will enjoy being with us and meeting all of you. Please do keep our students in your daily prayers; and also, pray for a continued stream of young people who will respond to the call of Christ to be Disciples in His Church today.
Next Sunday (29th) is the day of the Coast to Coast Rosary. All around our country next Sunday afternoon, the Holy Rosary will be prayed publicly at 3pm. We will pray specifically for our country, for peace in the world and for the upholding of the dignity of human life; this week marks the fiftieth anniversary of the implementation of the Abortion Act, so we ought to pray with greater intensity for a reversal of this law and in reparation for the millions of babies killed as a consequence. Pope Francis has sent his blessing to those taking part in the event: he assures participants of his “spiritual closeness” and places them “under the protection of Our Lady”. I would recall some words of St Louis Marie de Montfort, who said: When people say the Rosary together it is far more formidable to the Devil than one said privately, because in this public prayer it is an army that is attacking. Our Parish will pray the Rosary at the waters-edge at The Crowstone, bottom of Imperial Avenue at 3pm next Sunday. Let’s turn-out in great numbers for this. You can visit the website for more details: www.rosaryonthecoast.co.uk.
May God bless you all!
