Sea of Voices Community Choir
Our Community Choir takes its summer break after 25th July and also says farewell to our choir director Alice who will be going to Goldsmiths Hall in September to start her degree. Past and present choir members are invited to our farewell presentation to Alice on Wednesday 25th July from 7.45pm onwards. Serving the Homeless
We have started to sell tickets for our annual Raffle, top prize £150; other prizes include a hamper of French Food and Wine and a Champagne picnic basket. Please look out for committee members after Sunday masses.

First Holy Communion 2019
If you have a child going into Year 3 in September and would like them to make their First Holy Communion in 2019, please complete the on-line Registration Form available from the Parish Website, under Sacraments, and return it to the Parish Office no later than Friday 7th September.

The St John Bosco Childrens Summer Camp at Aldham Essex
This is an activities camp with a Catholic ethos that runs as follows :-
Week One Saturday 21st July to 28th July 2018 for Boys, Week Two Saturday 28th July to 4th August 2018 for Boys, Week Three Saturday 4th August to 11th August 2018 for Girls. It is for children aged 8 to 13 and costs £145 per week. Father Fiacra
A dinner has been booked for Wednesday 26th September at Il Padrino’s in Westcliff. This will be for the benefit of Father Fiacra and his mission. Many will remember Father Fiacra from his visits to St Peters whenever he returned to the UK from Malawi. The cost of the two course meal will be £15, which will include a donation to Father Fiacra. Safeguarding – keep updated with a free, online Diocesan course
The Diocese has made available free, online safeguarding training for all parish volunteers, especially those working with children and/or adults. This course consists of 7 online modules which can be completed at your own pace and saved and come back to at any point. The Dowry Tour and visit of the statue of Our Lady of Walsingham to Brentwood Cathedral
The Slipper Chapel statue of Our Lady of Walsingham will visit Brentwood Cathedral from Thursday 19th to Saturday 21st July. An opening Mass will be celebrated by Mgr John Armitage at 7.30 pm on 19th July in Brentwood Cathedral to which everyone is invited. Parish Centre - call for help one hour per week

Live Simply Cake and Craft Sale
The Live Simply group will be holding a cake sale after 9.30am and 11.30am Masses this Sunday, July 15th in the Parish Centre.The proceeds will go to an educational charity for refugees RSN (Refugee Support Network).
There will also be an opportunity to buy some beautiful hand-made crafts from Africa supporting KOFUP ( Kenyan Orphans Fund and Ugandan project). All are welcome.
Summer Lourdes 2018 – the “virtual pilgrimage”
From Tuesday 24th to Saturday 29th July the Brentwood Catholic Youth Service (BCYS) will present short online videos allowing you to catch the flavour of the Diocesan pilgrimage, led by Bishop Alan. The homily from each Mass, interviews with pilgrims from all ages, and clips to help you pray and reflect will all be available. Gift Aid
Last week we received a substantial donation in the collection in a white envelope. This was marked “Gift Aid please”. We are unable to reclaim tax unless we have full details of the donor. There are white envelopes that can be used for this purpose at the back of the church. If the donor would like to complete one of the envelopes and return it to the office we will, of course, reclaim the tax.

Many of us are beginning to wind-down at this time for the Summer break. If we are involved with education and young people, it is a time to look-back over the last year and review the many activities that have taken place. On Thursday evening we shall have our Primary School Leavers Mass here in the church, which provides the opportunity to thank God for all that our young people have received throughout their years at Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School. We thank the Staff and Governors who, day-by-day, contribute to the good working of our Catholic Schools. We shouldn't take for granted our Schools: there may come a time in the future when we may not be so fortunate, so our support for Catholic Education now is as important as it ever was.

During the Sumer vacation, let us not forget the weekly duty we have to God. Sunday Mass lies at the source and pinnacle of all that we are and do. Without weekly Mass we cannot function as we ought: as members of the Church and children of God. If we are travelling abroad or in other parts of these Islands, we ought to factor-in the time for Sunday Mass. This can be easily done these days and there are some very useful Apps that can be downloaded on to your ‘phone which allow you to research times of Mass in different parts of the country and world. The national Catholic Directory is on-line too.
Thanks to all of you who contributed to the Parish Annual Meeting and Garden Party last week. As I said then, we are all grateful to the many members of the Parish Family who carry-out roles and duties, seen and unseen; it is all of this collaboration that allows the efficient and smooth-running of a busy thriving Parish! Thank you to all who made the evening an enjoyable social event. God bless you all!
