Sea of Voices Concert - Friday 23rd November
The Parish’s Community choir is planning on holding a charity concert at the Parish Centre on Friday 23rd November 2018 from 7.30pm. The charity is yet to be chosen so any proposals for something local would be welcomed.
We would also welcome anyone in the Parish who would like to join in with our concert, either singing a solo or playing an instrument, etc along with any donations for a raffle or help serving teas and coffees on the night. Parish Christmas Bazaar - Sunday 2nd December
It's that time of year again and we need your help! We need your donations of unwanted gifts, bric-a-brac, raffle prizes, bottles, toiletries and craft items, please leave donations at the back of the church in the old baptistry. SPUC
The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) has produced postcards so that you can send a message to your MP urging him/her to vote against a dangerous Abortion Bill which is coming up in the House Commons on Tuesday 23rd October 2018. The Bill seeks to decriminalise abortion which would remove any effective legal protection for unborn babies and their mothers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Postcards are available from the back of church.

Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time Sunday 14th October 2018
Dear Friends in Christ
The texts of the Mass this week speak of the personal call that God addresses to each of us. If we respond to Christ’s invitation we will be filled with peace and joy. If, on the other hand - like the Rich Young Man in the Gospel - we turn away, we remain sad. True wisdom in this life consists in saying ‘yes’ to each one of Christ’s invitations in the course of our life. This call comes in many shapes and forms: it might be that we see in a blinding flash, as St Paul, that we need to follow Christ radically; it might be this call comes through a friend or colleague who opens our eyes to Christ; or it may be the gradual realisation that God is asking something more of me in my life. In whatever way God knocks at the door of our soul, we alone have the power to open that door and let Christ enter in. When Christ comes aboard the boat of our life, everything changes and we see life with supernatural clarity. Certainly all of us who are Baptised have been given this call to follow Jesus; but usually this call needs to be renewed, even daily, so that - as St Peter says - we make God’s choice and call of us a daily reality. There are many opportunities for us to give of ourselves to Christ more generously. We live in turbulent times. There are many ways that we can get more actively involved in the life of the Church. The Mass is the source and summit of the Christian life, so let us bring everything to the Mass each week, but even more, let it overflow into lives of generous prayer, apostolate and service. God bless you in this coming week.

Christmas Shoebox Appeal
Leaflets are available at the back of the Church giving instructions how to fill a shoebox with gifts for a child this Christmas, who otherwise would receive nothing. Filled and ready to collect shoeboxes should be taken to the nearest drop off point, Shoezone 80 High Street, Southend (opposite Lloyd’s Bank) tel no 01702 462662. Unfortunately Leigh Road Baptist Church is not an Operation Christmas Child drop off point this year. Alternatively, St Peter’s RC Church, 59 Eastwood Road North, Leigh on Sea, SS9 4BX, tel no 01702 522879 is a drop off point from mid October onwards. The shoeboxes will be going to Eastern Europe this year so hats, gloves etc are ideal box fillers. The closing date is Sunday 18th November. Please do not leave filled shoeboxes at Our Lady of Lourdes Church or Leigh Road Baptist Church.

Calling Knitters & Crocheters - Can You Help?
Could you make poppies, knitted or crocheted (3.5 to 4cm diameter with a pin on the back) to be included in a poppy wave being created to mark the centenary of the end of the First World War? The wave will be shown in The Royals 3rd-10th November, then moved to the foyer of the Cliffs Pavilion on Armistice Day, 11th November for the Remembrance Concert at 4pm. Journey of Faith (RCIA)
A series of informal talks, designed to give an insight into the teachings and traditions of the Catholic church, continues on Monday15th October at 8pm in the Parish Centre with Journey of Faith (Divine Revelation).
