Our next event is a Jazz Evening in the Parish Centre on Saturday 2nd March. Tickets are £10 and available from any Committee member or please ring Nina 472536 or Linda 558217. Refreshments of French bread, cheese, nibbles etc will be provided but please bring your own drinks.
Sacrament of Confirmation
Our Bishop, Alan Williams, will be making his Visitation of the Parish on the 19th May, 2019 and conferring the Sacrament for our young adults and anyone else wishing to be Confirmed. Candidates must have completed their fourteenth year by the end of August 2018. Please email office@lourdesleigh.org if you wish to apply. Preparation sessions will take place on Sunday evening starting in Lent.
Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Primary School
Class Teacher - Maternity Cover or 1 year NQT contract. MPR/UPR, Full time, Required September 2019. We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly-motivated class teacher in KS2 to join our friendly and dedicated team. The post would suit an experienced or newly qualified teacher who is either a practising Catholic or willing to support the strong Catholic ethos of our school. This is a maternity contract and as such may not last for the whole academic year. However if an NQT is appointed the School will honour a one year contract so that the successful applicant is able to complete his/her full NQT year.

The Mill Hill Missionaries prepare for the Feast of St Joseph with a special Novena of Masses, to ask for God’s blessing on their society and the intentions of all who support their work. Lenten Retreat 2019
The Vicariate for Evangelisation would like to invite you to join the LENT RETREAT 2019, 'Walking Together with Jesus' offered by the Jesuit's Mission Team via Pathways to God. All you have to do is to register individually ON LINE and you will receive, free of charge, daily prayers and meditations that you can fit around your own schedule. There is however an option to meet weekly with a small group to reflect together at the end of each week. Journey of Faith (RCIA)
A series of informal talks, designed to give an insight into the teachings and traditions of the Catholic church, continues on Monday 25th February at 8pm in the Parish Centre with Journey of Faith (The Mass - God Speaks and our response). St Luke was, according to tradition, a Physician and in addition to writing the third Gospel, wrote a history of the early Church: The Acts of the Apostles. Our Blessed Lady is said to have had a special affection for him, which was reciprocated by St Luke painting her. The picture of Mary, Salus Populi Romani, Health of the Roman People which is enshrined in the Basilica of Mary Major in Rome, is believed to be a very close copy of that original painting.

Last Sunday afternoon with the Bishop, and on Monday morning with our Primary School present, we celebrated the Solemnity of Our Lady of Lourdes. Placing ourselves - as a Parish and Diocese under her motherly protection - we have once again consecrated ourselves, as children of Jesus and Mary.
I would remind you that the Brentwood Cathedral Chapter of Canons meets four times per year; after each meeting there is Holy Mass in the Cathedral at noon which is celebrated by one of the Canons in turn with the Bishop being present. The Canons are a senior group of the Clergy whose purpose is to advise the Bishop on important matters within the Diocese and provide a liturgical presence within the Cathedral itself. This Monday (18th) I myself shall be presiding at the Chapter Mass and if any parishioners would like to attend you would, of course, be most welcome. A Schola from The Campion School, Upminster will provide the music for the Mass.

Gaudeamus Concert - Saturday, 23rd March 2019 at 7.30pm
Gaudeamus choir are once again performing at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. We are a chamber choir of 26 voices based in Leigh-on-Sea. We sing a wide range of music from the middle ages to the present day, unaccompanied and accompanied by piano, organ or orchestra, but are particularly noted for our unaccompanied a capella singing. The main work to be performed is Palestrina's Missa Papae Marcelli, along with Gorecki's Totus Tuus and Motets by Bruckner, Poulenc, and Messaien.
