Catholic Parenting - Engaging and re-engaging your children in the Faith
30th September 2019, 8-10pm at St Peter’s Catholic Church, Eastwood.
In this day and age, passing on our Catholic faith to our children comes with its challenges. How can we offer our children the best opportunity to understand and develop their relationship with God in a way that will sustain their practice of faith through to their adult life? How do we, as parents, navigate the aspects of our faith that are counter cultural and answer the difficult questions our children have about the teachings of our church?
The Diocesan Department for Marriage and Family Life have put together a workshop to support parents who are looking for ideas to raise their young children as faithful Catholics, or opportunities to re-engage older children and teenagers where there might be a struggle. This will be a chance to meet other parents facing the same challenges, to ask questions and hear some tried and tested ideas.

The readings of the liturgy for this Sunday remind us that the pursuit of the things of this earth, to the detriment of spiritual goods, is foolishness. Neither happiness nor authentic human life itself are founded on worldly goods. The rich fool in the Gospel (depicted by Rembrandt on the front cover) discloses his ‘value system’ in his mental language. He sees himself in a very secure position because he has great resources. He bases his stability and his happiness on his wealth. For him, as for many people, living is a matter of enjoying as much pleasure as possible.

It is to do as little as need be, to eat, to drink, 'to have a good time’, to lay up ample goods for many more years. This is his ideal. In his life there is no reference to God, much less to other people. He sees no need to share his goods with others less fortunate than himself. All of that should make us ask ourselves, as we hear the readings at Mass: Where is my heart? Because we know that our destination is Heaven, we have to make positive and concrete acts of detachment with regard to what we own and what we use. How much do we share our goods with the needy? How much time and wealth do we contribute to the charitable works of the Church?
Our meditation on eternal truths is a good antidote against sins of avarice, and a real help to our growing in the Christian virtues. Such thoughts might inspire us to give more attention to how we work, how we spend our time, our money our possessions…since Heaven is our goal, and we cannot travel there with the goods of this world!

Brentwood Catholic Children's Society
Children and families are now able to access direct therapeutic support in one of our clinics. Sessions take place after school or at an evening clinic at our counselling suites in Rayleigh. Our highly experienced counsellors provide support directly to the whole family or to children and adolescents on a 1:1 basis. If you are concerned that your child may need someone to talk to, please contact Catherine on cmunns@bccs.org.uk. There is a sessional charge, so please enquire.
Barleylands Fun Walk - Brentwood Catholic Children's Society
Brentwood Catholic Children’s Society is inviting families to join us at the Barleylands Fun Walk on Sunday 8th September 2019 to increase awareness of our work. This is a great fun, family event with a choice of walks on the Barleylands site in Billericay, the longest being no more than 2 miles and a shorter walk which is suitable for children & toddlers. There will be stalls serving cakes/biscuits and ice-cream available from 12pm and the community walk will start at 12.45pm & finish around 2pm. This is an ideal opportunity for families or parish groups to get together and have a fun afternoon while raising much needed funds for BCCS’. Evangelisation - Why/What/How? - Michael Dopp
Michael Dopp is an inspirational Canadian speaker who has presented for 18 Diocese and over 50 parishes and apostolates, as well as Catholic ministries such as CCO, NET, and Cursillo. He has led presentations for priest, deacons, university students, prayer groups, RCIA, sacramental preparation groups, adult faith formation and more. Michael will be touring the UK in October and Brentwood Diocese have taken the opportunity to book him to come and speak. He has very kindly accepted the invitation and we are privileged to host him for this one off event at Brentwood Cathedral Hall on Friday, 4 October 2019 from 14.30pm to 21.00pm. If you would like to attend this event it can be booked via Eventbrite or email adeleangel@dioceseofbrentwood.org. There is a small donation requested of £5 to cover his expenses. Spaces are limited.

Children's Liturgy
We are looking for volunteers to help at 9.30am Mass for Childrens Liturgy. We split into three groups whilst running the session and help/guidance is always given for every session.
