Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II RIP

The Parish Family joins the nation in mourning the death of Queen Elizabeth II and praying for her eternal repose. We also pray for the Royal Family at this time.

From the days of her Accession and Coronation, Queen Elizabeth had an acute awareness that, according to the Scriptures, a Monarch is chosen, consecrated and anointed by God for service of His people.

On 21 April 1947, on her twenty-first birthday, Princess Elizabeth said: I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service.

Now, seventy-five years later, we are heartbroken in our loss at her death, and so full of admiration for the unfailing way in which she fulfilled that declaration.

Even in sorrow, shared with so many around the world, we are filled with an immense sense of gratitude for the gift to the world that has been the life of Queen Elizabeth II.

At this time, we pray for the repose of the soul of Her Majesty. We do so with confidence, because the Christian faith marked every day of her life and activity.

In her Millennium Christmas message, she said, To many of us, our beliefs are of fundamental importance. For me the teachings of Christ and my own personal accountability before God provide a framework in which I try to lead my life. I, like so many of you, have drawn great comfort in difficult times from Christ’s words and example.

This faith, so often and so eloquently proclaimed in her public messages, has been an inspiration to us, and to so many. The wisdom, stability and service which she consistently embodied, often in circumstances of extreme difficulty, are a shining legacy and testament to her faith.

Our prayer is that she is now received into the merciful presence of God, there to be reunited with her beloved Prince Philip. This is the promise of our faith, and our deep consolation.

Queen Elizabeth II will remain, always, a shining light in our history.

The Queen died on the feast of the Birthday of Our Blessed Lady; we ask that the Queen of Heaven may receive our Queen into the heavenly court.

We pray for His Majesty the King, and all the members of the Royal Family and even as they mourn say: God save the King!

Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear friends in Christ

According to the teaching of Jesus, and the experience of the Christina Faith lived-out, the cost of discipleship is not less than everything.

Dear friends in Christ

According to the teaching of Jesus, and the experience of the Christian Faith lived-out, the cost of discipleship is not less than everything. This is the message proclaimed in the Liturgy of the Word at Mass this weekend. Jesus wants our whole heart, not just a part of it; our entire commitment and not a measured-commitment. This is the supreme undertaking of our lives, even if sometimes we may think that we had no choice in the matter. God has called each one of us by name to follow His Divine Son, Jesus Christ. To do this, and to do this well, we need to know all the means available to us, and how to use them. We also need to be aware of what is lacking in order to ask Our Lord for it with confidence. Each day we should examine our lives—our consciences—in the light of what has been given to us, and how we are corresponding to the call Jesus makes to us daily: follow Me!

We are once again beginning a new academic year, and we wish all those who work in our Schools a full and fruitful year ahead. Next Sunday is actually designated Education Sunday throughout our country. It is a day for us to reflect on the way we form our young people in the image and likeness of Christ; and how we communicate the essential and vital Truths of our Catholic Faith in a clear and comprehensive way. It is a Day for us to pray for all those entrusted with the education and formation of our Youth, that they may use their own talents and evangelical insights to let the unsurpassed glory of our Catholic Faith shrine through.

God bless you all, especially those who return to the halls of academia this week!

Msgr Kevin Hale
