St Bernard's High School Minibus Fundraiser

We are in desperate need of a second minibus in order to support our students to train at offsite sporting facilities due to our lack of onsite space.  We are fundraising internally at the school and through the great work of our PTFA but we are now reaching out to past students and friends of St Bernard’s to ask for kind donations of any amount to support us in this endeavour.

If you are available to support this fundraiser, please click on the below QR code:

SS PETER & PAUL, App

The two Princes of the Apostles—Peter and Paul—dominant our church building on the inside and out.

Dear friends in Christ

The two Princes of the Apostles—Peter and Paul—dominate our church building on the inside and out. Inside they face one another across the Sanctuary and outside they look out from the church tower: Peter gazing South towards Rome and Paul looks to the East. They each hold the symbol that represents their life and struggles: Peter holds the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven; Paul holds a book. Both were martyred in Rome for their discipleship of Jesus Christ: Peter crucified upside down in the Circus of Caligula (now the Piazza in front of St Peter’s Basilica) and Paul beheaded outside the City in a place named Tre Fontane, since according to legend where his head rolled, three springs appeared. We look to each of them this weekend for prayers and example. St Peter inspires us to be strong in the Faith he professed in Jesus Christ: You are the Christ, the Son of the living God and St Paul reminds us of the necessity of bringing our Faith to others, as he did as the first missionary.

Last Sunday during the Mass of Thanksgiving for my Fortieth Anniversary of Ordination, our Bishop reminded us that sufferings and struggles are part-and-parcel of Christian discipleship. The Apostles inspire us in this mission so that like them, we never give-up or give-in to the siren voices that would deflect us from being with Jesus. As I give thanks for the years of my Priestly life, I whole-heartedly thank all of you—my people and friends—who have sustained me on this path; I elaborated enough on this in the Newsletter last weekend. I now have to thank you for giving me a most memorable celebration last weekend. I was able to offer Holy Mass on Sunday for An Increase in Vocations to the Priesthood followed by a lovely Reception. On Monday evening, over forty Priests of our Diocese gathered in the church to pray and sing Vespers and Benediction on the Nativity of St John the Baptist followed by a supper together in the Gilbert Room. I have been overwhelmed by the kindness of so many of you—too many to thank individually—for such kind greetings, gifts and most of all, your prayers. I often tell my friends that I must have the best Parish in the Western Church! May God reward you all and may we go forward together in the Heart of Jesus and encouraged by Mary’s prayers!

We pray for our sick

The Sick List is available on the website main menu, under Worship.

We pray for the sick of our parish

Father,
by the power of your Spirit
you have filled the hearts of your faithful people
with gifts of love for one another.
Hear the prayers we offer for our relatives and friends.
Give them health of mind and body
that they may do your will with perfect love.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

Flower & Craft Festival Saturday 6th July 2024

Thank you to everyone who has agreed to take part in this year's Flower and Craft Festival. We now need all of you to support us by coming on Saturday 6th and bringing friends, neighbours and family to our beautiful Church. The theme is Prayer and everyone will find something that speaks to them, especially perhaps those who do not have any religious background. As always there will be free refreshments provided by some of our parishioners in the Parish Centre, with any donations going to HARP.

We would appreciate any donations of flowers on Friday 5th when we will be putting the displays together.

Please do try to make an effort to come along and appreciate the music, crafts and flowers that our parishioners have been creating.

The Forthcoming General Election

As you know, the UK general election is fast-approaching and those standing will want our votes.

We have a responsibility as Catholics, to ensure that parties commit to tackling issues such as upholding the sanctity of life for the most vulnerable in our society.

Raising our voices and contacting parliamentary candidates as a parish community will send a strong signal to them.

The Prolife Charity, SPUC has created a simplified process to equip Catholics to contact their parliamentary candidates .

Please see https://www.spuc.org.uk/valueyourvote for more information.

You just enter your postcode to find out who your candidates are, and a template email appears for you to send to them.

The threat of decriminalising abortion was averted in this Parliament but will soon return in the next.

There is also expected to be a big push to legalise assisted suicide as well.

It is vital for us as Catholic to use our vote to stand up for the most vulnerable in our society and to elect pro-life MPs.
