Catholic Women’s League - 'Macmillan Coffee and Cake’
It’s that time of year again and the CWL are hosting a Coffee and Cake Morning on 26th September, from 10.00am to 12noon in the Parish Centre. All proceeds will be going to Macmillan Cancer Support. Please come along and support this good cause by having a cuppa and a cake. If you would like to make a contribution by cooking a cake or fancies we would be more than happy to receive them. They can be dropped off in the Parish Centre on the morning of the Coffee and Cake event.‘

Locally we support the parish effort by providing fresh produce for the homeless people in Southend.
Lord, help us to use our resources wisely and to encourage others to do the same so that all may share the world’s resources.

Serving the Homeless
A huge and sincere thank you to all the parishioners who purchased tickets for our recent raffle. This raised £711 towards our funds and will be used to help the homeless people in the Southend area. A list of the winners has been put up in the porch.

Twenty-third Sunday of the Year
Dear friends in Christ
The Gospel we hear read at Mass this Sunday raises the sensitive issue of what the spiritual writers have called fraternal correction. In other words, if I see my neighbour doing something wrong, acting immorally or set on a path of self-harm, then it is my duty as a brother-in-the-Faith,to correct them by pointing-out their mistake. Naturally this requires not just tact, but a certain spiritual maturity on our part; it does not imply a general license to go about putting others right! In fact, it may happen only rarely that we discover the need, in charity, to speak to a friend or family member when we see them embarked upon a course which will harm their soul. We have all had moments when we have thought that we should speak-up, and sometimes we lack the moral courage to do so, out of fear or human respect or cowardice. The advice our Lord gives reminds us that we shouldn’t be timid when it comes to the eternal well-being of another. The Prophet Ezekiel tells us in the First Reading what the reward is for such valour: If you warn the wicked man to renounce his ways and repent, and he does not repent, then he shall die for his sins, but you yourself will have saved your life. We need to ask God daily to make us aware of the spiritual plight of others and, with a sensitive charity, bring them back to Christ the gentle Shepherd and ruler of our lives.
This Monday evening I will begin Three Talks on the Faith especially for non-Catholics; I have already invited a number of our non-Catholic spouses personally to these Talks but if you know someone whom you think would benefit from this introduction to the basics of our Faith, do send them, or bring them, along on Monday evenings, 8pm in the Parish Centre, God bless you all!

Training for Altar Servers
Training sessions will commence on Tuesday 30th September at 4.30 pm in the Sacristy. Training is open to all those who are over eight years old and have received the Sacrament of Holy Communion. All those wishing to participate must register beforehand. Please note the training sessions are subject to a minimum of two participants. The sessions are spread over a period of five to six weeks. For all those wishing to participate, please contact Gerry Dillon (Parish MC) on 01702 712187.
Margueriteville Country music club
Following last Saturday’s very successful gig (30th August) a further £500 donation was made to the Parish centre fund. The next event will be on Saturday 27th September at St James’ in Elmsleigh Drive. Parishioners and donated raffle prizes very welcome! Contact Darrell on 07825 686249 for details
St Vincent de Paul Society Awareness Month
Concern is not enough—befriend the lonely
The core work of the SVP is to visit and befriend people in need, providing practical and moral support through this one-to-one contact. Locally, members visit people in their own homes, in residential/care homes or in hospital. As well as personal contact, practical and material assistance may be given including financial support on occasions. Lord, we remember all those who are lonely and we pray that we may be able to help them find friendship.
The Annual Appeal will be held next weekend—13th/14th September.
