Friends of Nazareth House
A Christmas Bazaar will be held at Nazareth House, 111 London Road, Southend on Saturday 22nd November starting at 11 am. Admission Free and this will be run by the Friends of Nazareth House.
Youth Group
Fr. Kevin hopes to shortly start a bi-weekly youth group in the parish. The idea of this group would be to combine pizza and fun with an opportunity to discuss life issues in a way which provides solid Catholic formation. The format for the evenings might be a talk, followed by a discussion, followed by pizza. We would hope that the group would also provide a conduit for greater involvement with the Diocesan Youth Service and Diocese wide events. We want to put our young people in an environment where they can recognise Catholic culture lived out by other young people. We would like to provide an opportunity for our youth to deepen their attachment to Catholic culture by visiting some of the wonderful Catholic places close to us in order to discover our heritage in terms of recusancy, pilgrimage, and prayer.
We would hope the group would benefit from our experience working with young people, our passion for our Catholic faith, and our desire to evangelise. It would be aimed roughly at Confirmation age young people, perhaps to provide a forum of faith for them after they are Confirmed. If you are interested in getting involved in this as a leader, please come along to a meeting in the Parish Centre on Monday at 7:30pm.

The Carmelites
The next monthly meeting of Carmelites will take place on the 22nd November. The meeting is open to all Parishioners who are interested in deepening their faith, you can join us in the church at 2.15pm for the Rosary or in the Parish Centre Newman room at 2.30pm for a cup of tea and the meeting, ending by 5 pm. Why not join us for part or all of the meeting. We look forward to seeing you.

The Dedication of the Basilica of St John Lateran in Rome
Dear friends in Christ
This year we get to celebrate the feast of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica on a Sunday. It was one of the first churches to be built by Christians following the early persecutions. It was raised by the Emperor Constantine and consecrated by Pope Sylvester on this day in the year 324. Originally celebrated only in Rome, the feast became universal in the Roman Rite as a sign of unity with the Holy See. The church continues to be the Cathedral Church of the Bishop of Rome, the Pope. It is often referred to as the Mother of all churches in Rome and of the world. The church building is a sign of the Church gathered for worship. The congregation is composed of us, the living stones that together make-up the Body of Christ.By our Baptism we are consecrated to God and given the vocation to be the holy members of His Body. The Rite for the ceremony of the Dedication of a church says: The church building is the place where the Christian Community gathers together to hear the Word of God, to offer up prayers of petition and praise, and, in a principal way, to celebrate the Sacred Mystery of our Faith. The Blessed Sacrament of the Eucharist, a unique image of the Church, is reserved here. The altar is surrounded by people made holy by participating in the sacrifice of the Lord and nourished by the celestial banquet. The august Sacrament is a sign of Christ, who is priest, victim and the altar of His own sacrifice.
During the Vigil Mass this Saturday I shall commission some new extra-ordinary ministers of Holy Communion who will assist with the distribution of Communion at Mass; pray for them, that they may be devoted to the Blessed Eucharist.
We are approaching the Days of Solemn Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament - The Forty Hours’ Prayer - in our Parish: 27-29th November. Please make a note of these days during which we can especially come to offer our prayers to Christ Who abides continually in the Sacrament of the Altar. God bless you all!

Brentwood Catholic Children’s Society and HCPT the Pilgrimage Trust
We are holding an exclusive ladies-only, luncheon at The Rayleigh Club, Rayleigh (formally Lords Golf & Country Club) on Friday 5thDecember 2014. Guests will be treated to a delicious two course Christmas luncheon with tea, coffee & minced pies served in the luxurious surroundings of a private room over-looking the golf course at this exclusive club. Ticket’s cost £20.00 per person and with lunch being served at 12.30 there will still be plenty of time to collect the children from school if you need to!

If you have ever been bereaved and would like them to be remembered at this Mass, please sign the list at the back of Church. During the Mass we will invite a member of each family to come forward and light a candle.

November Dead List
During November Holy Masses are offered for our departed ones. If you would like to include relatives and friends in these Masses, please put their names on the sheets and in the envelopes provided at the back of the Church. Their names will be placed under the Altar during November, together with the Register of the Dead. Envelopes should be placed in the box provided in the West Porch or handed in to the Parish office.
