Christ the Universal King

Dear friends in Christ

This Sunday of the liturgical year gives us the image of Christ the Universal King reigning from the Cross. This feast of His Kingship is a summation of all of the mysteries of the life of Our Lord that we have elevated since the start of Advent last year; it also brings with it the conclusion of this Jubilee Year of Mercy and we thank God for all of the graces that the Church has received as a result of it.

We end the liturgical year, as is the custom in our Parish, with the Solemn Days of Eucharistic Adoration which begins on Thursday evening and concludes with Benediction on Saturday, the eve of Advent. I ask you to be generous in the time you give to visiting Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament during these three days and I would ask that each Parish Group is represented by covering the Watching times which are given on the lists for you to sign-up to at the back of church. Candles which will burn – and be used also throughout the year as the sanctuary lamp – can be had from the Sacristy for five pounds. This is, as always, a time of special grace for the Parish Family as we bring all of our prayers of praise, adoration, thanksgiving, petition and reparation to the throne of Christ our King.

Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School

Part Time KS2 Teacher (Mornings only) required from January 2016 (For TWO terms initially).  We are looking for a committed person to join the friendly staff in our wonderful school. We are a well resourced school with well behaved children. Visits to the school are most welcome.  We are looking for an experienced teacher to support our KS2 special needs pupils. This is a part-time role to cement pupils’ understanding in reading, writing and mathematics.

ABC - About Being Catholic

Brentwood Catholic Children’s Society

In association with HCPT will be hosting our very popular Ladies’ Christmas Luncheon on Friday 9th December 12 for 12.30pm at the Rayleigh Golf Club, Hullbridge.  Ladies will be treated to a delicious two course lunch with tea & coffee at this exclusive club.  Tickets cost £25.00 per person. Christmas Bazaar - 3rd December 2016

This years Bazaar is just around the corner, we would not be able to have this annual family and community event without all of your fabulous donations! If you've been meaning to have a good clear out now is the time!  We are now ready for all donations of bric a brac, books, grand draw prizes, sweets, craft, toys, new gifts and toiletries and anything else in a new or re-saleable condition. (No jumble or electrical please).  Please leave all donations at the back of the church in the old baptistery apart from donations of bottles for the bottle stall, which will be collected over one weekend a bit nearer the time, due to problems with storage. Prize draw tickets will be handed out and available at the back of the church after masses from this weekend. Many thanks in advance and if you have donations you would like collected or any suggestions/ideas for stalls, or would like to help setting up or on the day but couldn't make the meeting, call Sue on 07816141492.

Catholic women’s League Cake Sale

The CWL would like to thank all those who supported the Cake Sale, to those parishioners who baked for us, those who bought all the produce (there wasn't even a biscuit left over) and those who made financial donations.  A grand total of £160.90 was raised which will be distributed amongst various CWL National Charities.

Scripture Group

Fr Con Joyce’s Scripture Group will next meet in the Parish Centre 8pm-9pm on Thursday, 1st December.  Fr. Con will be talking about the prophets.  All welcome.

Thirty-third Sunday of the Year

Dear friends in Christ

During these final weeks of the liturgical year, the Church reads to us events which are apocalyptic in nature to remind us of the afterlife. The Readings at the Mass this weekend are just in this vein: death, judgement, heaven and hell. We know that life is short and that the time when we shall encounter Christ will be soon. This should help us to pray better, both for our own salvation and for the salvation of those who have died and gone before us marked with the sign of Faith. We must have our eyes fixed on Heaven, our ultimate and permanent homeland. At the same time, we try to have our feet firmly fixed on the earth. We should work in such as way as to give glory to God, to provide for the needs of our family and to improve society. Our daily examination of conscience should keep alive in us the thought of whether we are genuinely striving for holiness and thus for eternal life in Heaven.

This Sunday afternoon there will be our joint Deanery visit to the Cemetery in Sutton Road, Southend, to pray of the Holy Souls. We shall meet inside the entrance gates at three o’clock, offer some prayers in common and then process to the graves of our family members or friends with our priests for the blessings. Candles for the graves can be purchased from the Repository (three pounds) and also at the Cemetery. God bless you all!
