THE MASS – New from Bishop Barron
There will be a screening of the new Bishop Barron series, The Mass, where we will walk through the Liturgy with Bishop Barron and see how the Mass brings us out of the fallen world and into the heavenly realm.
The Mass series will help you understand how to fully, consciously, and actively participate in the source and summit of the Christian life, and, most importantly, how we are intimately joined with the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus through the Holy Eucharist.
The series will be shown in 3 parts, starting at 8pm on Monday 10th September 2018 in the Parish Centre. Please join us!

Kerala Flood: SVP Emergency Appeal
Kerala, India, is currently being affected by some of the worst monsoon rains in over a century, resulting in major flooding, the displacement of over one million people, hundreds of lives lost and thousands of homes washed away. The Society of St Vincent de Paul (SVP) has close 'twinnage links' with this part of India and is well-placed to help those affected by the disaster both now and in the longer term when the 'news cameras' have moved on! Our own OLOL parish SVP 'Conference' has already donated £300 from its own resources. If you can, please assist this Emergency Appeal by going to: svp.org.uk select the 'Donate' tab, scroll down to 'Where should it go?' and select 'Kerala Emergency Appeal'. Cheques can be sent to: SVP Twinnage Disaster Fund, PO Box 318, Whitstable, CT5 9BS with 'Kerala Disaster Fund' on the back of the cheque. Thank you for any help you can give.

Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Dear Friends in christ
We continue reading a fourth extract of the Bread of Life discourse in St John’s Gospel this weekend. It brings me to the next portion of my catechesis on the Mass: The Eucharistic Prayer. In this central action of the Mass, Our Lord becomes really and substantially present among us, as the food for eternal life. I hope you have been able to follow these Homilies either at Mass or as a podcast on the website or at iTunes (Lourdesleigh).

Very soon we hope to begin the live-streaming of Masses and liturgies in the church. This will enable parishioners or those further afield who cannot be present in the church, to join with us in our worship of God at Mass and the Sacraments. It will also make it possible to pay a virtual visit to the church 24/7. You will be able to do this through a link on the website when it is installed.
Next weekend the World Meeting of Families takes place in Dublin. The Pope will visit and celebrate Mass there next Sunday at the conclusion of the five day event. We pray for all the families who will participate in this Meeting that, through the power of the Holy Spirit and the intercession of Jesus, Mary & Joseph, Marriage and family life within the Church may be renewed, revered and raised-up as a sign of hope for our world.
God bless you all!

Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Dear Friends in christ
We are continuing during these months of Summer our reading of the sixth chapter of St John’s Gospel; the discourse known as The Bread of Life. During Mass the Homilies are reflecting on the elements that make-up the Holy Mass and this week I will say something about the Offertory or Presentation of the Gifts, and how this all has a meaning which connects in a very tangible way with our lives and the way we can make of ourselves an offering to God on the Altar at Mass.

This Wednesday - 15th - is the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary into Heaven. We celebrate the truth that at the end of her life on earth, Mary was taken (Assumed) body and soul into the glory of Heaven. God loved His Mother so much that He did not allow her body to experience the decay which comes with death, but wished her to be with Him in Heaven immediately. As we come to Mass on Wednesday - which is a Holyday of Obligation - we can ask Mary’s prayers, that we, after our death, may come quickly into the joys of Heaven to be with God and with her who is Causa Nostræ Lætitiæ…Cause of our Joy!
God bless you!
