Live Streaming of Services

As you will have read in previous Newsletters, we have begun live streaming of Mass and Liturgies in our church. This is intended as service to those who are housebound or otherwise unable to be present in church for particular occasions, for example, weddings and funerals. It is available 24/7 so visitors can make a virtual visit to the Tabernacle. The sanctuary area alone is visible without the faces of the congregation and no recording takes place. You might be able to introduce someone to use this facility which can help to keep others in contact with what happens in our beautiful church here. Simply visit the Parish website and scroll down to find the video.

School Admission Forms for Primary and Secondary Schools

Parents wishing to apply to Catholic Schools for the next academic year are required to obtain a Letter of Catholic Practise from their Parish Priest.  This must be requested from your Parish Priest in person and only one per child will be issued.  Please come to the Parish Centre for these on Wednesday, 10th October between 6pm and 8pm or Wednesday, 17th October between 6pm and 7pm.

These are issued only to practising Catholics (i.e. those who attend weekly Mass). Furthermore, this practise of the Faith will be viewed over a period of time and not just the weeks prior to an application. Parish Priests may also look at the date of Baptism, noting those children who have been Baptised soon after birth as compared to those Baptised with proximity to school age. This is a matter of justice to all involved in applying for places in our Schools. Our schools are often oversubscribed and in order to be fair, preference will justly be given to those who live and practise the Faith as well as who contribute to the life of the Church through the various ways in which that support is given. If you are not a practising Catholic this Certificate will not be given; you may still apply to a Catholic School but your application will considered under another category for Admissions

St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP) ‘Awareness Month’ 2018

At the St Vincent de Paul Society we are aware that poverty exists beyond where we can see.  Members of the SVP can be found helping others in prisons, care homes, hospitals or visiting people in their own homes.

In some of these instances, being a Member of the SVP can be a challenge, but it is also rewarding work, seeking and finding those in need, giving our support with compassion, and responding where the need is greatest.

This is our Annual Appeal weekend!  Thank you for your continued financial support and generosity.  If you would like to know more about the SVP or if you are interested in joining the Society, please get in touch with Francis O’Brien, Tel 01702-552373.

Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Friends in christ

The liturgy of this Sunday is a call to absolute hope and confidence in God. Isaiah in the first reading lifts up his voice to comfort the Chosen People who are exiled. In the Gospel, Jesus brings hope to the man deaf and dumb by opening his ears and loosing his tongue. This openness is also necessary for us, so that we may hear God’s Word and proclaim it. Our ears have to be continually tuned-in to what God is saying, and our mouths ready to give an account of the Truth that we carry.

This weekend in Liverpool a National Eucharist Congress - Adoremus - is taking place, the first in our country for over a hunted years. It is being attended by all our Bishops and a small group from our own Parish will be participating. Over the weekend there will be workshops, seminars and lectures all around the mystery of the Blessed Eucharist. There will be extended periods of adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Pontifical Masses and the conclusion on Sunday will be a Eucharistic Procession through the streets of Liverpool with an estimated 5,000 participants. Please join with us there spiritually at Mass, and in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, so that with Jesus in the Eucharist at the heart of the Church and of our Parishes, we may be renewed in mind and heart.

God bless you all and with an assurance of my prayers at the Eucharistic Congress!
