Dear Friends in Christ
This Sunday we welcome our Bishop, Alan Williams, to the Parish. The presence of the Bishop in our midst is equivalent to that of one of the Apostles, since the Bishops of the Catholic Church are the direct descendents of those Twelve that Jesus called and commissioned to teach and sanctify in His name. During 11.30am Mass this weekend the Bishop will confirm twenty-six young adults. They have been preparing since the start of Lent for this moment, which is the completion of their initiation into the Church (begun at Baptism and nourished with the Blessed Eucharist) and now they take their place as fully adult members of the Family of the Church. Please pray for them, their families and their Sponsors, that they will be faithful to the graces and gifts that the Holy Spirit brings them on this occasion. I am very much indebted to the small group of Catechists who have been involved with the preparation of our young people for this Sacrament; I am confident that they have been given a good, solid and spiritual preparation for their Confirmation. Also, please continue to hold the Bishop in the charity of your prayers. He has a hugely important task as our Teacher of the Faith and we ask that the work that has been entrusted to him will be a cause of joy and consolation for him and for us.

Please remember that the first Workshop in the Reframe series for Evangelisation in our Parish will take place this Saturday from 11am-3pm in the Parish Centre; all are welcome. The subject will be: How to defend the Faith without raising your voice!

Learning Support Assistant vacancy - Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School
Sacred Heart Primary School and Nursery has been a consistently good school for many years and has a friendly, dedicated team where everyone belongs. Our children are well behaved and enjoy coming to school.
We are looking for a learning support assistant and we hope to find someone who has experience of working, understanding and supporting children and who knows that teaching and learning is really important. Because of the demands of the 2014 curriculum, we need someone with excellent English and mathematics skills. We need someone who will be committed to our school and will be able to work with our team. We need someone who will thrive when working with children and be ready to do any reasonable task and be prepared to learn a range of new skills.
The position will be from 08.30-15.30, with a half-hour lunch break Monday to Friday, term time only.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff and volunteers to support this commitment. Please contact the school office to arrange a visit and collect an application pack.

St Helen's Parish, Westcliff-on-Sea is celebrating its 150th Anniversary in May with the following events
On Friday 24th May there will be a mass at 5:30pm followed by a special dinner with Bishop Alan Williams at 7pm in celebration of all the couples who were married at St. Helen’s Church over the years. Tickets are £30. Please contact the office on 01702 342324 for tickets.
On Saturday 25th May from 6 to 8.15pm there will be a concert featuring beautiful songs, instrumentals and dance by talented young people from Brentwood Diocesan schools and churches. No tickets required but there will be an opportunity to make a donation. Coffee and cake will be available in the hall during the interval.
On Saturday 26th May there will be an International Food Festival starting with a cultural show at 12pm. Adult £8/ Children £3 (please contact the office on 01702 342324 for tickets).
