First Holy Communion 2024
If your child is going into Year 3 or above and you wish for them to make their First Holy Communion, please submit the application by Friday 8th September 2023.
This should be done via the parish website, under Sacraments - Communion

We are back! And very pleased to welcome you all after the summer break, on Thursday 7th September from 10 am in the Parish Centre. New members are always welcome so do come along and meet friends old and new, enjoy tea/coffee and cake for subs of just £1.00 per Meeting plus a fun Raffle.
At our first Meeting of the Autumn term you are invited to bring along your favourite Book , Poem or anecdote to share so please don’t be shy! There is no pressure for anyone to do anything, just turn up and enjoy yourselves in a convivial atmosphere, and hear about our plans for future Meetings. PS Raffle prizes greatly appreciated!
Repository Open
After the summer break the Repository is open again from this weekend 2-3 September. We have a very nice selection of new stock which includes a small selection of Statues. Thinking ahead to “All Souls” in November we have a selection of Graveside lights, Lanterns and some small Remembrance tokens. These will of course be available each week . You are all welcome to come and browse and if you do not see what you are looking for please ask one of the Volunteers.
If you have a short time to spare before and after a weekend Mass, please consider volunteering at the Repository. Please leave your name and contact number at the Parish Office.

Starting at 3.30pm with a traditional English Afternoon Tea (sandwiches, cakes, scones, etc.) and of course Tea and Coffee with soft drinks available for the children.

BIN A TIN FOR VIN
The St Vincent Centre is doing wonderful work in Southend helping the poorest amongst us.
You can help the food bank there by bringing a tin of something with you when you come to mass and putting it in VINNIE'S BIN, which will be in the OLD BAPTISTERY.
This will be emptied twice weekly.

Dear friends in Christ
The Gospel of the Mass this weekend, describes the commissioning of Peter as the rock and cornerstone of the Church. By changing his name, Our Lord wished to underline the new mission his apostle Simon had been given: that of being the foundation of the new edifice of the Church. From the beginning of Christianity, the Faithful have venerated the office of the Pope. The Prince of the Apostles is ever mentioned before the others and makes frequent use of his special primacy and authority over the others. The spiritual powers that Christ gave to Peter were for the good of the Church, and since the Church has to last until the end of time, these powers are handed down throughout history to those who take the place of Peter. Our veneration of the Pope is not just a natural affection, based on his holiness, his likeableness, or his charisma. When we see the Pope, when we listen to what he says, we do so in order to have a tangible connection with Peter, the Vicar of Christ. He is, whoever he happens to be, the sweet Christ on earth as Saint Catherine of Siena would call him. An ancient formula sums up in a few words all the teaching about the Bishop of Rome: Ubi Petrus, ibi Ecclesia, ibi Deus, as St Ambrose said...where Peter is, there is the Church, there too is God. As we listen to this Gospel at Mass this weekend, we may thank God for the gift of our faith, and specifically, our Catholic Faith, founded on the rock and profession of faith of Saint Peter.
