Dear friends in Christ
In this week ahead we have the Solemnity of All Saints followed by All Souls Day—moments which focus our thoughts even more than usual, on the reality of eternal life and our eternal destiny. As we celebrate the Communion of Saints in Heaven we also think about the reality of death which is the doorway through which we pass in order to be with them—and with God Himself—in eternal life. The celebration of All Saints reminds us not to give-up on the pilgrimage that leads to eternal joy with the Blessed Trinity. The Saints—from every age and walk of life—have done this before us and so encourage us from their place above to keep running in the race, the prize of which is eternal life. All Souls Day provides us with the opportunity to come to Mass again and pray for the Holy Souls. I remind myself each year, during November, that one day I will depend on the loving charity of those still on earth, to pray for me. Let us not forget our beloved departed, and intensify our prayers for them in this month ahead.
A countless multitude of friends await us in Heaven. The light of their example shines down on us, and makes it easier, sometimes, to see what we ought to do. They can help us with their prayers, strong prayers, wise prayers, when ours are so feeble and so blind. When you look out on a November evening, and see the sky all studded with stars, think of those innumerable saints in Heaven, all ready to help you. (Msgr Ronald Knox)
May God bless you!
