Refreshments will be available.  All proceeds will go to Kenyan Orphan Fund & Ugandan Project.  Why not pop in after Mass or tell your friends?

Quiz & Chips Night

This will be held in Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Centre on Saturday 22nd July, 6.30pm for 7pm start.  Maximum 8 people per table.  Prizes for the winners.  Fish & Chips will be served, bring your own drinks and nibbles.  £10 per person.  Raffle donations gratefully received.  All proceeds go to the Parish Lourdes Fund.  For tickets please contact Phyllis on 07969465518 or Darrell on 07825686249.

Sea of Voices

We have been going for over a year now and have sung in various locations.  We could still do with more voices, male and female.  We meet upstairs in the Parish Centre 7.45pm to 9.15pm on Wednesday evenings.  Do come along and see what you think with a view to joining.  We also need an Assistant Musical Director.  If interested, or know of someone, please contact Darrell on 07825686249.

Parish Notice Boards

Following the ‘Stewards of the Gospel’ initiative, a need for more effective communication was expressed.

Following the Parish AGM on 2nd July, I have taken on the task of trying to do this.  There is now a Board with various Parish groups listed, if your group is not listed can you let me know so that I can rectify this.  Also could you add a card with a name and contact details to your group sign so that people can join you if they wish.

May I please ask that you do not put posters for events on this board, but use the others availableAny more ideas would be welcome.  Jo Ronan

Diocesan Centenary Pilgrimage to Walsingham Saturday 22nd July

There are two APT coaches departing from the Church on Saturday at 8am and depart from the Shrine after Mass no later than 5pm.  It would make sense if you took the same coach home, so please remember if you are on coach 1 or 2.

Please remember to bring a packed lunch and suitable clothing as we shall be outdoors most of the day.  You may also like to bring something to sit on in the Abbey grounds, a blanket or one of those light-weight camping seats that you can carry with you on the mile walk.  Suggested donation for the retiring collection is £2.

There are a few tickets for the coach left, £10 per adult, £5 per child.  These are available from the Parish Office.

Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Friends in Christ

The image of Christ carrying the Cross - consonant with the words of the Gospel this weekend - reminds us that Jesus came to free mankind from our burdens by taking them upon Himself: Come to me all you who labour and are overburdened and I will give you rest…United with Christ always, the difficulties, crosses and sacrifices of this life on earth are bearable and tolerable. The Christian life, when lived in authentic imitation of Christ, allows us to live in such a manner as to relieve others of their burdens.  Sometimes this will mean us doing some small acts of service and charity.  At times it will mean giving a word of encouragement or hope. At other times it will be to help someone to look at Jesus so that they may see their situation in a clearer perspective, with the light of the Master. We may think too of those aspects of our behaviour with which sometimes, without really meaning to, we make life harder for others…our whims and fancies, our rash judgements, negative criticism, lack of consideration for others, or unkind words.  Looking at Jesus carrying the Cross helps us to see our lives always in the perspective of His, and to live knowing He carries us and our burdens, and asks us to do the same for others.

Lourdes Fund

There has been a small Fund in the Parish to assist young people going on pilgrimage to Lourdes for some years now. It was first endowed by the late Bishop Patrick Casey and has practically dried-up.  If there are any groups or individuals who through fundraising or donations would like to continue to endow this Fund then please make any donations payable to the Parish of Leigh-on-Sea and designated it for the Lourdes Fund.  Many thanks.

APF Boxholders

If you have not had your box opened in the last six months would you please give it in to the office or to me personally in the next few weeks.  I have received the Summer Missio, if you have not already received one from me please take one from the back of the church in the usual place.  Don't forget to collect your emptied boxes from the back of the church.  Thank you.  Joan Caunce, 01268 757505.
