Coffee Morning, Bring & Buy for Women’s World Day of Prayer
Friday 7th February in the Church Hall of Sacred Heart Church, Southchurch Road, after Morning mass (9.45a.m. – 12.00 noon). The coffee morning is an opportunity to raise additional funds for the Day of prayer that takes place in March. This is a day when women all over the world unite in prayer for a one hour prayer service which is compiled by women from one country . The same service is used throughout the world. This year’s service has been prepared by the women of Egypt and is on the theme “Streams in the Desert”. Money raised at the services is used for charitable donations all over the world and the full detail of accounts is found in the service booklet. Please drop in and support this cause. Homemade Cakes and Bring and Buy included.
Collection Counter Required
Pauline Jordan has counted the Offertory collection for many years. We thank her for her sterling service. Pauline is now stepping down so we need a replacement on Monday mornings, one week in 6.

David Cameron has awarded the St. Vincent de Paul Society a “Big Society Award”. The St. Vincent de Paul Society turns concern into action. The Society’s incredible number of volunteers build on a 200 year history of lending a practical hand to support those in need. We are hoping that it will create interest from people who want to become members.

Dear Friends in Christ
It seems unbelievable, but it is only three weeks until the official Opening of our new Parish Centre! This will take place on Sunday, 9th February, starting at one o’clock in the church, and is open to the entire Parish. There will be a short Liturgy - not a Mass - presided over by the Bishop. It will include the singing of a Te Deum specially commissioned for the occasion. We will process from the church to the new Centre and the Bishop will bless the walls - inside and out - with Holy Water, before we all enter the new building for an afternoon of celebration. Please put this date in your diary and do come along, even for a part of the afternoon, which will conclude by four o’clock. In addition to the presence of the Bishop, we have also invited the Mayor and our Member of Parliament, together with members of the Diocesan Curia and those who have been responsible for the construction of the building. Elsewhere in the Newsletter the Parish Centre Committee have outlined how the Parish Centre may be utilised and all enquiries and queries should go through them using the specially designated email contact: Parish Centre Committee at gmail.com
It goes without saying that this is the fruit of almost ten years of planning, fundraising and effort on the part of so many groups and individuals. I believe that the Parish will be rightly proud of what has materialised and that the end result is not only beyond my own expectation but will be a noble and fitting tribute to this and future generations of Parishioners. The Centre consists of a large function room upstairs (The Gilbert Room) and a small hall downstairs (The St Clement Room, suitable for refreshments after Masses) and two smaller rooms (The St Bernadette Room and The Newman Room) which can be used by committees and groups for meetings. There will be a substantial Garden which can be used for Summer events and a car park which can accommodate around fifteen cars together with parking for bicycles! There will also be a small cloistered area incorporating a Cinerarium (for the burial of ashes) and we will give details later about provision for such burials. In short, an exciting project coming to completion and a celebration which I am so looking forward to!
God bless you all!

Parish Centre News
We have been busy organising everything in preparation of the Parish Centre Opening on 9th February and we hope to see you all there. We have also been working on the Terms and Conditions of the hiring of the Centre and obtaining a premises licence from the local council. We are working as quickly as we can as we know that many of our Parish groups are eager to book their regular slot.
We shall be contacting our uniformed groups: brownies, guides, scouts, cubs, beavers — but to be sure we don’t miss anyone out, please drop us an email if you run a Parish group and want to book your space. You can now email the committee directly parishcentrecommittee@gmail.com. At the moment we are meeting every Thursday evening where we look at all enquiries.
At present we can only book our Parish Groups; we hope that when we have a licence and finalised terms we can extend the hiring of the centre to our Parishioners.
We are still looking for volunteers to organise and deliver refreshments after Masses. Please contact the Parish Office if you are willing to volunteer.
