PASTORAL MESSAGE FROM BISHOP THOMAS McMAHON
On this Feast of St Peter & St Paul it is timely to reflect upon the gift of Pastoral leadership in the Church. First, we continue to give thanks for our Chief Pastor, Pope Francis, and ask God’s blessing upon him as he renews the Church by word and example.
Secondly, as I prepare to leave Office, I gladly take this opportunity of thanking with a full heart all those who in any way have supported me in my Episcopal Ministry. It has been my great joy and privilege to work with you in the diocese at large and in our parishes building up the Kingdom of God.
Finally, we look forward to the Episcopal Ordination of Bishop-elect Alan Williams and I know that you will give the same prayerful support to him as you have to me over the past thirty-four years.
May God bless you and let us pray for one another that the Lord may carry us and that we may continue to carry one another.

Serving the Homeless
Serving the Homeless are holding a wine tasting at St Bernard’s High School on Friday 4th July. Tickets are £16, which includes a buffet supper, and are available from Linda Wall 558217 or Jo Ronan 474062.

Dear friends in Christ
The Solemnity which we celebrate this weekend is nothing less than the greatest Treasure which the Church possesses on earth: the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Lord in the Eucharist. The French call this Day simply: Fete Dieu, The Feast of God, and so it is. There is nothing more beautiful in our Faith than the joy we have in giving praise and worship to God on this Day because it reminds us that Jesus remains with us on earth under the appearance of food. Our acts of adoration given to our Lord on this Day, can make up for the incredulity, cynicism and rejection of the world. We say in this feast each year that, there is something greater than us, something greater than materialism, something greater than the world, which can be loved simply for the sake of loving. There is no greater recklessness for the Christian than loving Jesus in the Eucharist simply for His own sake. I hope you will all make the effort therefore, to participate in our annual Parish Procession this Sunday afternoon, simply for the love of God who outpours Himself for us daily in the Eucharistic Sacrifice.
This Monday 23rd - Vigil of the Birthday of St John the Baptist - I hope to celebrate my third decade of Priesthood with a Sung Mass at 7.30pm followed by a Reception in the Gilbert Room. A few of my close priest-friends are joining us, including the recently consecrated Auxiliary Bishop of Birmingham. I hope many of you will be able to join me in thanking God for the immense gift of the Priesthood in the Church, which makes it possible for us to have Christ with us in the Sacraments,
Please continue to pray for our Bishop-elect - Fr Alan Williams - who will be consecrated on 1st July in Brentwood. On the preceding evening there will be a Holy Hour in our church to pray for his intentions at the same time as a Holy Hour in Brentwood Cathedral when Fr Williams will make his Canonical Oaths and the Blessing of the Pontificalia will take place.

HARP
On Saturday August 9th there will be a street collection in Leigh to help raise money for the running costs of HARP - the local charity which helps the homeless in our Borough. As a volunteer fund raiser for this worthy charity I am organising the collection and am trying to recruit some helpers to stand in the Broadway - we will be standing on the crossing area near St Clements Church and the collection runs from 10.30am until 4.30pm with collectors (2 at a time) standing wearing HARP tops and holding a HARP collection tin for an hour each.
I know that Our Lady of Lourdes Parish is a big supporter of HARP, as is Father Kevin, so if anyone is willing to spend an hour helping I would be very grateful if you could contact me so I can make up a rota. Please indicate what time would suit you best and if there is anyone you would like to be with.
