Charity Meal in aid of Nazareth House
The Knights of Saint Columba are organising a charity meal to support the exemplary work of the Sisters of Nazareth. The meal will take place at the East Asian Restaurant, 33 Alexandra Street, Southend SS1 1BW, on Tuesday, 25th September, 7pm for 7:30pm. Eat as much as you like buffet style Asian cuisine (some English dishes available) for £16 per person. Drinks extra, available from the bar. Spectacular raffle, tickets sold on the night. Brentwood Catholic Children’s Society
Children and families are now able to access direct therapeutic support in one of our clinics. Sessions take place after school or at an evening clinic at our counselling suites in Rayleigh. Our highly experienced counsellors provide support directly to the whole family or to children and adolescents on a 1:1 basis. School Admission Forms for Primary and Secondary Schools
Parents wishing to apply to Catholic Schools for the next academic year are required to obtain a Letter of Catholic Practise from their Parish Priest. This must be requested from your Parish Priest in person and only one per child will be issued. Please come to the Parish Centre for these on

These are issued only to practising Catholics (those who attend weekly Mass). Furthermore, this practise of the Faith will be viewed over a period of time and not just the weeks prior to an application. Parish Priests may also look at the date of Baptism, noting those children who have been Baptised soon after birth as compared to those Baptised with proximity to school age. This is a matter of justice to all involved in applying for places in our Schools. Our schools are often oversubscribed and in order to be fair, preference will justly be given to those who live and practise the Faith as well as who contribute to the life of the Church through the various ways in which that support is given. If you are not a practising Catholic this Certificate will not be given; you may still apply to a Catholic School but your application will considered under another category for Admissions.

Serving the Homeless
Sincere and grateful thanks to all parishioners for your continued support. The Summer Raffle raised £869.32: a list of all prize winners is displayed in the church porch. The meal at Yak and Yeti raised a further £651.00. This month we have been able to give HARP £3,500 for their transitions work plus £500 to the YMCA.
Our next fundraising event is My Kind of Music — popular songs across the years, featuring Elizabeth Upsher. This will be held in our parish centre on Saturday 27 October at 7.30pm. There will be cheese platters, biscuits and nibbles but you are requested to bring your own drinks. St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP) Awareness Month 2018
The SVP offers practical care by visiting people in need. This is one way we can put our Faith into action! Presently, we are particularly mindful of members of our parish living now in local care homes who may have lost touch with our local Catholic community. If you know of these — or indeed any others — who would benefit from and welcome a visit from a friendly face then please let us know and we will seek to assist if we can within the scope of the current Membership. We will be planning our Christmas Social soon for senior members of the parish community! Dear Friends in christ
There are very many questions in this life that we can safely ignore without any consequences. There are other questions which are more fundamental because they touch on the meaning of our life and existence. The question that Jesus poses to His Apostles, asking them who He is, must always make us and stop and think. Jesus is the centre of everything, and our happiness on earth is in direct proportion to how much we have fallen in love with Him. All problems can be resolved if we are close to Him. No solution to anything in life can be found unless it is in reference to Him. That is why the testimony of St Peter can be an act of faith for us too: You are the Christ, the Son of the living God; and in another place: Lord, to whom else can we go, you alone have the message of eternal life.

Last weekend I had the good fortune of participating in the National Eucharistic Congress - Adoremus - which took place in Liverpool; it was the first for over a hundred years. During that time we heard some wonderful reflections and testimonies on the Blessed Eucharist; attended helpful seminars, and above all spent time in Eucharistic adoration. The weekend concluded with Pontifical Mass in Liverpool Cathedral and a huge Eucharistic Procession through the streets of the City on Sunday afternoon. Thanks be to God for this wonderful witness of Eucharistic faith and act of evangelisation; congratulations to all the organisers who made it such a memorable event.
