The two Saints we venerate this weekend celebrate the beginning of the Christian Faith. The Apostles Peter and Paul are considered by the Church as the first pillars, and not only of the See of Rome, but also of the universal Church, the Church of the living God spread throughout the world. They are the Founders of the Church of Rome, the Mother and teacher of all the other Christian communities, and it was their endeavours that gave them growth by the supreme testimony of their martyrdom: Peter by crucifixion, and Paul by the sword. Peter is the first Pope and Paul brought the Gospel abroad by his missionary efforts.

Toady is a day on which to profess our belief in the Church: One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic; a day on which to pray for the successor of Peter, Pope Francis, and for all those who carry the Word of God to far away places. May they inspire us to live holy and Catholic lives for the good of the Church and the salvation of souls.
Next Sunday is the day of our annual Parish Meeting and Garden Party. As in previous years this is not a business meeting but the time when Reports are given by the various Parish groups, so that we can review and celebrate the life of the Parish Family. It also gives me the opportunity to say thank you to everyone who contributes to the building-up of our Parish. Do come along, even if only for a short time, to meet and be together socially.
May God bless you, and through the intercession of Saints Peter and Paul, keep us united in faith and devotion of Christ and His Church.

The committee of Serving the Homeless are organising a Chinese meal at the East restaurant in Alexandra Street on Wednesday 3rd July at 7.30 pm. Tickets cost £15 and are available from any member of the Committee or please ring Linda on 01702 558217.

Open Evening for Year 5 Students (Prospective Year 7 in 2020). Wednesday 3 July 2019 6.00pm to 9.00pm. We would be delighted to welcome Year 5 girls and their parents/carers to our Open Evening. A Message from our Bishop
Over six months ago we published the Diocesan Vision Document: Shaping Our Future. That was the culmination of nearly three years of discussions, prayer, discernment and working together.
After initial meetings with the clergy I invited Stewards of the Gospel to step forward to work with the clergy and myself to find new ways of responding to God’s love for us. In the Diocese and our Parishes we have worked together to find a response that is fit for the 21st Century in East London and Essex.
Last December I asked everyone to work in Parish Partnerships to make the Vision a reality in every part of our diocese. I encouraged us not to cling to the status quo but rather to be bold in our thinking and to explore new ways to evangelise our diocese.
In six months every Parish Partnership will send in a draft plan for my consideration. That plan should set out how Stewards and Clergy in each Partnership, informed by discussions with local parishioners, think it could be structured so as to best evangelise their part of the diocese.
There are many wonderful things happening in our diocese for which I am very grateful- please continue to work together in a spirit of prayer and united always in Christ and Mary.

St Thomas More High School - Open Evening
This will be held on Thursday 11th July, 6pm to 9pm, for families who have a son due to transfer to secondary school in September 2020, come and see the school, meet the staff and pupils. The Headteachers talk will begin at 7pm. Prospective sixth form students for September 2020 are also welcome, although there will be an open evening for students currently in year 10 on Thursday 21st November 2019. Parents of boys who wish to apply to St Thomas More School for a place in September 2020 should complete the local education authority single application form (saf) and fill in the supplementary information form (sif) that can be collected at the open evening. Diocese of Brentwood Marriage Conference
There is an inaugural conference for those in national and local organisations, parishes and deaneries working to support and promote marriage on Saturday, 6th July in Cathedral Hall, Brentwood.
About this Event:
Keynote speakers: Brenden Thompson, Lead Coordinator, Catholic Voices, and Laura Thompson, Teacher and Catholic Voice.
Additional input from the Diocesan Marriage and Family Life Team, and free-ranging discussion on ministry to married couples and families and Diocesan renewal.
Doors open from 10am with tea and coffee available. Free buffet lunch - donations welcome on the day or when registering.
The annual Mass of Thanksgiving for Marriage and Family Life takes place in the Cathedral at 3pm, followed by a reception in the Hall. Bishop Alan Williams sm will be the principal celebrant and preacher at this Mass. Conference participants are welcome; please indicate if you are staying via your choice of event ticket. It is something that we experience both in the celebration of Holy Mass, and whenever we come into the presence of Jesus in the Tabernacle or in times of adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Because Maundy Thursday is overshadowed by the events of Good Friday and the Passion, the Church wished to have a separate Day on which we could celebrate The mystery of Faith.

This weekend throughout the Church, in times of Eucharistic adoration and Processions, the Catholic Faithful express their love and devotion to a God who has wished to remain with us on earth. Jesus has done this by making Himself completely vulnerable in the Mass and in the Tabernacle. The Tabernacle is the one thing that makes our Catholic churches unique and separate from any other building, be they church, temple or dwelling. This is because God Himself abides there. Whenever we come into the church in the silence of prayer, we have the knowledge that we are before Jesus Himself. With thanksgiving to Almighty God for having given Himself to us in this way, we can give generously of our time to be at Holy Mass, in adoration and in the Procession which takes place this Sunday afternoon at 4pm. Please join with our First Communicants - who lead the Procession - in giving Jesus our hearts in return for the love of His Divine Heart.
