First Communion: Session 8
Chapter 14: Jesus dies on the cross for us
Introduction for parents
Key Questions
What has Jesus’s death done for us? Jesus’s death has redeemed us from sin.
Why do we say that Jesus’s death is a sacrifice? Jesus’s death is a sacrifice because he willingly gave up his life for our sake.
Jesus died on a hill called Calvary by being crucified - nailed to a cross. He was innocent. But he accepted death for our sake. It was a sacrifice which he gladly made. This was the way in which God wanted to bring us back from sin to eternal life with Him. Jesus’s act of love has redeemed us. It is called the Redemption. We love and worship Jesus for his sacrifice.

Chapter 15: Jesus rises from the dead
Introduction for parents
Key Questions
What do we celebrate at Easter? At Easter we celebrate Jesus’s resurrection from the dead.
In what other way do we celebrate the resurrection? We celebrate the Resurrection every Sunday by going to Mass.
We call Jesus’s rising from the dead the resurrection. It is one of the most important of all Christian beliefs. Jesus’s resurrection proves that all he said was true and that he was the Son of God. It shows that he did save us from sin and death, and that there is life after death. The Resurrection gives the power to the Sacraments so that we are truly washed clean in baptism, really forgiven in confession and receive the Real Presence of Jesus in Communion.
