Lourdes Fund

There has been a small Fund in the Parish to assist young people going on pilgrimage to Lourdes for some years now. It was first endowed by the late Bishop Patrick Casey and has practically dried-up.  If there are any groups or individuals who through fundraising or donations would like to continue to endow this Fund then please make any donations payable to the Parish of Leigh-on-Sea and designated it for the Lourdes Fund.  Many thanks.

Nazareth House

Do you have some spare time and would like to help others, then why not volunteer at Nazareth House.

The Sisters are looking for people to enhance the life of the residents, by sitting with them, assisting at meal tunes bringing the resident out for a walk/shopping etc.  You can help for as little or as long as you can and if you are there during meal time then you will be provided with a hot meal.

If you would like to help then contact sister Brigid on 01702 345627 or email superior.southend.uk

Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Friends in Christ

We have now entered the high summer month of July, a month in which we honour the Precious Blood of Jesus Christ. Saint Pope John XXIII especially wanted us to have a vibrant devotion to the Precious Blood of Jesus, the price of our redemption, and the pledge of our salvation and eternal life. When we receive Holy Communion from the chalice during this month, let us pray that the Lord will wash away all our sins and forgive and convert those who bring bloodshed and violence to our world. Sometimes, sadly, I have heard people refer to Holy Communion from the chalice as “receiving the wine” - a sorry term and mistake! Let’s never refer to ‘wine’ but only to the Precious Blood. In 1960, Saint Pope John XXIII asked the Congregation of Rites to compose a litany in honour of the Precious Blood. It is a beautiful prayer that you can slowly reflect on. Please pray it often this month. You can find here:

APF Boxholders

If you have not had your box opened in the last six months would you please give it in to the office or to me personally in the next few weeks.  I have received the Summer Missio, if you have not already received one from me please take one from the back of the church in the usual place.  Don't forget to collect your emptied boxes from the back of the church.  Thank you.
